            James Foy Chatman, 82, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - James Foy Chatman, 82, went to be with the Lord Friday 
            (Nov. 16, 2001). 
            He was a loving husband, dad, granddad, brother and friend to all 
            who knew him. 
            Mr. Chatman was of the Methodist faith. 
            He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary W. Chatman; father and 
            mother, James and Nancy Chatman; brothers, Gomer, Paul, John and 
            Jessee Chatman; sisters, Tempie Chatman, Maude Kelly and Mary 
            Frances Chatman. 
               
            Survivors include two daughters, Debbie White of Gray, and Cindy 
            Cobb of Kingsport; two stepdaughters, Kathy Simpson of Valley, Ala., 
            and Wanda Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four sons, Richard Chatman of 
            Kingsport, Michael Chatman and James Chatman, both of Oklahoma, and 
            David Chatman of Kingsport; two stepsons, Johnny Hatfield of Fort 
            Wayne, Ind., and Olin Hatfield of Milwaukee, Wis.; 29 grandchildren; 
            18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucy Jackson of Kingsport; two 
            brothers, Robert Chatman and Russell Chatman, both of Fall Branch; 
            several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fall Branch Chapel 
            of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, and anytime at the home of his son, 
            Richard Chatman, 413 Peery St., Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the 
            funeral home with the Rev. Gary Lankford officiating. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Logan's 
            Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

            Eloise Christian, 71, Gate City, Va.

            GATE CITY, Va. - Zola Eloise Christian, 71, Route 1, Manville 
            community, died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical 
            Center. 
            She was a housewife. Mrs. Christian was of the Baptist faith and 
            attended Salley's Chapel Church. 
            She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 
            She was preceded in death by her father and mother, the Rev. 
            Everette Lane and Lucille Bellamy Lane; a brother, Jimmy Lane. 
               
            Surviving are her husband, Jay Christian, of the home; two daughters 
            and sons-in-law, Marcia and Rick Snodgrass, Elizabethton, and Kim 
            and Ronnie Absher, Gate City, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Phil and 
            Sherry Christian, Gate City, Va.; her grandchildren, Brad and Kim 
            Christian, Ben Christian, Blake and Breven Absher, Melody, Matt, 
            Nic, Jonathan, Jana, Joy, Kari and Kathryn Snodgrass; 
            great-grandson, Mason Christian; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rowena 
            and Glen Johnson, Banner Elk, N.C., Karen and Robert Kojima, 
            Mountain Ranch, Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and 
            Sue Lane, Kingsport, and Bill and Rita Lane, Church Hill; 
            sister-in-law, Harla Lane, Cyril, Okla.; several nieces and nephews. 

            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Colonial 
            Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., with Pastor Charles Boone and the 
            Rev. Claude Lane officiating. 
            Burial will be in the Christian Family Cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be Blake Absher, Preston Peters, Paul Tipton, 
            Kenneth Blankenbecler, Saunders Jackson, Keith Davidson, Herman 
            Spivey and Joe Henry Christian. 

            Mae Francisco, 85, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Mae Vermillion Francisco, 85, entered into rest Friday 
            (Nov. 16, 2001) at the Wexford House, Kingsport, Tenn. 
            She was born on May 5, 1916 in Ft. Blackmore, Va., to the late 
            Charles Jefferson and Nancy Jane Fultz Gillenwater. 
            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her first 
            husband, Clarence Edward Vermillion; second husband, Lyle DeWolfe 
            Francisco; several brothers and sisters. 
               
            Survivors include one daughter, Shelby Jean Smith, Kingsport; son 
            and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Jeanne Vermillion, Gate City, Va.; 
            two stepsons, Don Francisco and Lynn Francisco, both of Kingsport; 
            one sister, Monnie Gillenwater, Weber City, Va.; grandchildren, 
            Cathy Piner, Cindy Price, David Smith, Brian Vermillion, Beth 
            Williams; stepgrandchildren, Greg Francisco, Jeff Francisco, Richard 
            Francisco, Donna Ruth Horner; great-grandchildren, Whitney Piner, 
            Ashley Piner, Brandon Piner, Gwen Smith, Rusty Smith, Nicole Price, 
            Adam Price, Will and Jonathan Vermillion, Grant and Garrison 
            Williams; stepgrandchildren, Kari Durnin, Josh Horner; four 
            stepgreat-grandchildren, Jillian Francisco, Nick Francisco, Doug 
            Francisco, "Tal" Francisco; several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral 
            Home, and other times at the residence of Eddie and Jeanne, Gate 
            City, Va., and Shelby Smith, Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin 
            Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Blessing 
            officiating. Eulogy will be provided by Rodney Piner. Music will be 
            provided by Brian Henry. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Holston 
            View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. 
            Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. 
            The family will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go 
            in procession to the cemetery. 

            Gregory Garrison, 27, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Gregory Elhanan Garrison, 27, passed away Friday 
            morning (Nov. 16, 2001) at his home. 
            He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1993. He also attended 
            Vocational School in Rogersville and received a certification as a 
            machinist. 
            He was employed by H.D.K. Industries. 
            He was of the Baptist faith. 
            He was preceded in death by his sister, Tammy D. Garrison; his 
            maternal grandfather, Elhanan Barker; and paternal grandparents, 
            Benjamin and Avis Garrison. 
            Surviving are his parents, Kaye and Marcella Garrison, of the home; 
            brother and sister-in-law, James Allen and Emily Garrison; sister 
            and brother-in-law, Tracy and John Morris; one niece, Cheyenne 
            Garrison; three nephews, Gregory Garrison, Zachary and Jake Morris, 
            all of Rogersville; maternal grandmother, Julie Barker, Duffield, 
            Va. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colboch-Price 
            Funeral Home, Rogersville. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Basil Jones officiating. 
            The family will also receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at 
            Gilliam Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Va. 
            Graveside services will proceed at Riverview Cemetery in East Stone 
            Gap, Va.

            Nora Kate Greene, 86, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Nora Kate Hurd Greene, 86, Ridgeway Road, died at 2:35 
            p.m. Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at her home. 
            Born in Hancock County, she had lived in the Kingsport area more 
            than 60 years. Mrs. Greene was a member of Wallen's Bend Missionary 
            Baptist Church. 
            Her husband, Hubert C. Greene; a sister, Mamie Hurd; six brothers, 
            Matt, Carl, Guy, Curtis, Kay and Coy Hurd, preceded her in death. 
            Surviving are her two daughters, Sandra Robbins and husband, Bill, 
            Kingsport, Delta Conkin, Kingsport; a son, Carl E. Greene and wife, 
            Margaret, Kingsport, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two 
            sisters, Anna Lou Cox, Church Hill, and Sally B. Trent, Rogersville; 
            and several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson 
            Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Orville Rogers and Pastor Joe Shelton 
            officiating. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Highland 
            Cemetery. 

            Mark Harkleroad, 32, Memphis, Tenn.
               
            MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Services for Mark Harkleroad, 32, who died 
            Wednesday morning (Nov. 14, 2001), will be conducted at 3 p.m. today 
            in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, with Pastor 
            Steve Tilley and David Doty, Minister, officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church 
            Cemetery.

            George T. Lawson, 83, Limestone.

            LIMESTONE - Graveside services for George T. Lawson Sr., 83, 351 
            Cherry Hill Road, who died at 5 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001), will 
            be conducted at will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in the Fall 
            Branch Church of Christ Cemetery. 
            Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes is in charge of 
            the arrangements. 

            Edward Logan, 80, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Edward Neal (Bill) Logan was born June 7, 1921 in 
            Hawkins County, and went to be with the Lord Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) 
            at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital. 
            Bill retired from Holston Defense Corporation after 34 years of 
            service. Prior to his employment at Holston Defense, he served in 
            the U.S. Army during World War II. 
            He was a faithful member of Russell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where 
            he served as trustee, steward and custodian. 
            Bill was known for his selfless service to others in the community 
            and was a tireless volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. 
            He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Francisco; 
            grandmother, Annie Logan; and a brother, Earl Francisco. Bill Logan 
            will be remembered for devotion to family and service to others. 
            A devoted husband and father, he leaves a wife, Mary Lucile Logan; 
            two sons, James Thomas Logan and William Edward (Eddie) Logan of 
            Rogersville; a daughter, Connie Frances Logan of Nashville; 
            daughters-in-law, Stella Logan and Yolanda Logan; three 
            grandchildren, Stephanie Logan of Chattanooga, Bryan Logan and 
            Yotisha Logan; two sisters, Jennie Lou Banks and Cecile Blevins, 
            both of Rogersville; and a host of nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Colboch-Price 
            Funeral Home, Rogersville. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home 
            chapel. 
            Following the service, Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct 
            military honors at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens. 

            Mary Longworth, 78, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Mary Alice Longworth, 78, went to be with the Lord on 
            Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home due to an 
            extended illness. 
            She was a member of the Church of God in Richmond, Ind. 
            She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Buster Smith; three 
            stepsons, Paul, Ralph and Harold Smith. 
            Surviving are her husband, Wilburn Longworth; son, Ed (Yvonna) 
            Smith, Rogersville; two daughters, Brenda (Sonny) Ashburn, Dearborn, 
            Mich., and Carolyn (Charles) Fields, Greeneville; two stepdaughters, 
            Flora Mayes, Rogersville, and Elizabeth (Fred) Patterson, Amherst, 
            Ohio; four additional stepchildren; 11 grandchildren; nine 
            great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Colboch-Price 
            Funeral Home, Rogersville. 
            Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel 
            with the Rev. Neal Drinnon and the Rev. Hassel Carpenter 
            officiating. 
            Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.

            A memorial mass for Richard Joseph Payton of Kingsport, who died 
            Friday (Nov. 16, 2001), will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Dominic's 
            Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Burton officiating.

            Bernice Pearson, 94, McDonough, Ga.

            MCDONOUGH, Ga. - Bernice Pitts Pearson, 94, died Friday (Nov. 16, 
            2001) at Starcrest of McDonough. 
            Born in Bristol, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and 
            Lillian Bevins Pitts. 
            She was a former employee with the H.P. King Company for 25 years. 
            Mrs. Pearson was a charter member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church 
            and was pianist for the church before moving to Georgia. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pearson. 
            Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Jean and husband Clyde of 
            McDonough, Ga., and Laura Frances and husband Frank of Gaithersburg, 
            Md.; one son, Paul Edwin and wife, Nancy Pearson, Cashiers, N.C.; 
            two sisters, Mrs. Bradley Lewis, Bristol, Va., and Mrs. Bill 
            Huddleston, Columbia, Md.; also nine grandchildren and 11 
            great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Akard Funeral 
            Home, Bristol, Tenn. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel with Pastor Bob Jones officiating.

            CONWAY, S.C. - Cody Lee Phillips, 18, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at 
            Conway Hospital. 
            He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Thelma Mullins. 
            Surviving are his parents, Michael and Lois Phillips, Conway; 
            sister, Anita Sue Phillips, Orange, Va.; brother, Howie Michael 
            Phillips, Locust Grove, Va.; paternal grandparents, Herman and Peggy

            Louise Rowland, Blountville.

            BLOUNTVILLE - Louise McClelland Rowland died at her home Saturday 
            morning (Nov. 17, 2001). 
            She lived her entire life in Sullivan County and was a lifelong 
            member of the Blountville Presbyterian Church. 
            Mrs. Rowland was a former president of the Sullivan County Democrat 
            Women. 
            Her husband, Vernon "Strail" Rowland; and a son, V.P. "Bud" Rowland 
            Jr., preceded her in death. 
            Survivors include a son, Sam Rowland, Reynolds, Ga.; and four 
            grandchildren, Sam Rowland Jr., Montezuma, Ga., Bayne Rowland and 
            Brent Rowland, both of Greenwood, S.C., and Paige Rowland, Los 
            Angeles, Calif. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral 
            Home, downtown. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Blountville 
            Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Everett officiating. 
            The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

            Oscar Lee Sims, 72, Bristol, Va.

            BRISTOL, Va. - Oscar Lee Sims, 72, of 6047 Walker Mountain Road, 
            died at Bristol Nursing Home at 3:25 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 17, 2001).

            KINGSPORT - The Rev. Wayne Grafton Smith, 57, passed away Friday 
            (Nov. 16, 2001).

            BLOUNTVILLE - David Earl Steele, 39, passed away Friday evening 
            (Nov. 16, 2001).

            Nell Stout, 72, Telford, Tenn.

            TELFORD, Tenn. - Iva Nell Ferguson Stout, 72, of C.D. Williams Road, 
            Telford, died unexpectedly at her residence Saturday morning (Nov. 
            17, 2001).

            Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. 

            Gary Williams, 48, Church Hill.

            CHURCH HILL - Gary Wayne Williams, 48, passed away Thursday (Nov. 
            15, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center due to injuries sustained 
            in an automobile accident. 
            He was retired from A.L. Industrial in Kingsport and attended Cold 
            Springs Church. 
            He was preceded in death by his father, George Albert Williams; and 
            grandmother, Annie Matilda Williams. 
            Surviving are one daughter, Tanya Nicole Williams; one son, Cody 
            Wayne Williams, Surgoinsville; mother, Bertha Pauline Bryant, 
            Dungannon, Va.; two sisters, Nettie (Roger) Woodruff, Coeburn, Va., 
            and Nell Vina (Paul) McCracken, Church Hill; three half sisters, 
            Marline, Lucille and Tina; two half brothers, Junior (Earnest) and 
            Beuford Williams; several nieces and nephews; special cousins, Brian 
            and Teresa Jones; several aunts and uncles; one special uncle, 
            Willard Williams.

            LeRoy Wilson, 58, Edison, Tenn.

            EDISON, Tenn. - LeRoy Wilson, 58, passed away Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) 
            at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. 
            He was born in Blackwater, Va., and was the son of the late William 
            Alfred and Doney Willis Wilson. 
            He had lived in Edison for the past five years. 
            He was preceded in death by four brothers, Reuben Wilson, Ronald 
            Wilson, Lewis Wilson and Johnny Wilson; and four sisters, Pauline 
            Wilson, Barbara Wilson, Jeanette Wilson and Geneva Bowman. 
            Surviving are three sons, Tony Wilson of Woodstock, Va., LeRoy 
            Wilson of Tom's Brook, Va., and Douglas Wilson of Morefield, W.Va.; 
            two daughters, Tracey Wilson of Woodstock, Va., and Regina Gensler 
            of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren; four brothers, Ralph Wilson 
            of Rogersville, Sam Wilson of Baltimore, Md., William Hamp Wilson of 
            Berkley Springs, W.Va., and Ray Wilson of Sykesville, Md.; two 
            sisters, Bertha (Kitty) Shugars of Rogersville, and Elizabeth 
            Collins of Ellicott City, Md. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Robinette 
            Funeral Home, Blackwater, Va. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Richard Cassidy officiating.

            Interment will follow in the Willis-Wallen Cemetery in Blackwater, 
            Va.
