Dr. Dearman was born in Winggate, Miss., and was a resident of Fall Branch for the past four years. He was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Mississippi Southern University, University of Mississippi, University of Tennessee and the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Va. Dr. Dearman was medical director for Western Mental Health Institute of Boliver, Tenn. He had his own practice in Johnson City, Fall Branch and Kingsport. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Howard Q. Duffy, 59, went to be with the Lord Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at her home in Norton, Va. She was a former employee of St. Mary's Hospital in Norton as an LPN. She attended Guest River Pentecostal Church and had a great love for the Lord, her family and friends. Edwards, 81, went to be with the Lord Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at Wexford House after a period of declining health. Juanita was born Aug. 6, 1920 in Scott County, Va. and was the daughter of the late Rufus and Mae Oma Cross Puckett and was the widow of Charles C. Edwards. She was a member of Deck Valley Independent Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Billy Edwards; two grandsons; one sister and one brother. Surviving are her daughters, Peggy Ramsey of Kingsport, Sandra Allen of Piney Flats, Patsy Phillips of Florida; three sons, Larry Edwards of Bristol, J.D. KINGSPORT - Hugh Eckel Fuller, 84, Lochridge, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center. A son of the late John L. and Kelly Alley Fuller, he was a native of Robinette Valley, Hancock County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Juanita Horton Fuller; his brothers, Guyle and W.D. Fuller; and his sister, Opal Fuller. He received his early education in Hancock County and Church Hill, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1936. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State in 1940 and his Master's degree in 1953. He taught school at Independence and Wake Forest Elementary Schools in Hancock County, Hancock County High School and Rye Cove High School in the late 1930's and early 1940's. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving at bases in Georgia and Mississippi during World War II. He returned to Kingsport in 1946 and began teaching Tennessee history at John Sevier Junior High School. He continued to teach there until his retirement in 1978. He was saved at an early age and for many years he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Fuller was an avid musician and was skilled in playing the banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina, piano and other instruments. While in college, he performed locally with two other students and in later years he performed with his brothers-in-law and close friends, Luke and York Horton. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Randall Overbey of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Noel and Martha Fuller of Kingsport, with whom he had made his home in recent years. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Mrs. Thomas (Julie) King, Jr., Cary, N.C., and Jamie Fuller, Kingsport; two grandsons, Bryan Fuller, Knoxville and Robert Overbey, New York, N.Y.; two great-grandsons, Cameron and Thomas King III, Cary, N.C. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Luke Horton, Eidson and sisters-in-law, Betty Horton, Eidson, Nancy Horton, Blountville and Elizabeth Fuller, Weber City, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Emory Gilly, 72, died Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1929 in Powell Valley, the son of the late John Gilly and his surviving mother, Nellie Gilly. Emory was a lifelong active member of the Powell Valley Presbyterian Chapel. As a young boy, he participated in the construction of the church and until his death served as an elder of the church. Emory worked for 42 years as a salesman for Pet Dairy in Big Stone Gap. After retirement, he worked part-time for Food City in Big Stone Gap, Va. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Billie; two daughters, Karen Fulcher and husband, Pat, Phoenix, Ariz., and Emily Marrs and husband, John, Norton, Va.; four grandchildren, Patrick, Chala, Summer and Johnda; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Gracie and Bryce; and a fourth great-grandchild is expected in April; three brothers, Vernon Gilly, Wade Gilly and Johnny Gilley, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; four sisters, Nila Rines, Big Stone Gap, Va., Anna Gibson, Kingsport, Edna Gilly, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Audrey Meroney, Advance, N.C.; he has many special nephews, nieces and special caregivers who were so helpful during his illness and brought much joy to his life, especially Bob and Mary Collier and Jessie Cantrell, sisters and brother-in-law of Billie, his wife. KINGSPORT - Bobby Wayland Gray, 68, Sullivan Gardens, went to be with the Lord Friday morning (Oct. 19, 2001) at his residence. He was born in Greene County, graduated from Baileyton High School and had lived most of his life in Sullivan County. Mr. Gray was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company. He enjoyed being with his family (especially going camping with them) had a good sense of humor and encouraged all to visit him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie William Gray and Minnie Marie Gray. Ramey Sr., 54, 735 Big Hollow Road, died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at his home. A native of Haysi, Va., he was the son of the late Oscar O. Ramey and Stella E. Woods Ramey. He was president and co-owner of Ramey Aluminum and Vinyl Inc. and a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He attended the Liberty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Ramey and a sister, Betty Smith. Surviving are his wife, Caroline M. Cox; children and spouses, Lisa and Jimmie Dunn, Piney Flats and Cpl. Monical and Cpl. Eddie Jones, Camp Pendleton, Calif., PO-2 Larry O. Ramey Jr., Naval Air Facility, Washington, D.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Lee Deel, Vancent, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cliff and Greta Ramey and Frank and Judy Ramey, all of Blountville; several nieces and nephew; and special friend, Martindale. Arnold Smith, 58, Big Stone Gap, Va. BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Arnold Eugene "Smitty" Smith, 58, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001). He accepted Christ into his life and was a member of the Holy Comforter Baptist Church in Maryland. He was born in Stonega, Va. to Earl Smith and Cora Lee Waters who preceded him in death. He was a carpenter and loved working with his hands. He also had a passion for cooking. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He leaves not to mourn him but to cherish his precious memory his beloved wife, Rose Lindsay-Smith; sons and daughters, Arnold Eugene Smith Jr., Cindy Michelle Smith, Tanya Charlene Smith, and Anita Darlene Poore; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepchildren; brothers and sisters, Robert Smith, Don Smith, and Clara Ruth Vernon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
