            Joseph (Joe) Arnott, 90, Mount Carmel.

            MOUNT CARMEL - Joseph (Joe) Arnott, 90, went to be with the Lord 
            Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. 
            He was a veteran of World War II and retired from Tennessee Eastman 
            after 42 years of service. Joe was a member of Oak Grove Baptist 
            Church, and was an avid sports fan. 
            He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John James and 
            Helen Mandola Arnott; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Afton C. and 
            Nell Arnott, Julian M. and Edith Arnott; great-niece, Debbie Monroe. 

               
            Surviving are his wife, Lois Arnott, Mount Carmel; daughter and 
            son-in-law, Elaine and Jerry Cox, Mount Carmel; son and 
            daughter-in-law, Dennis and Donna Arnott, Maryville, Tenn.; three 
            grandchildren, Melanie Arnott, Sherry Cox Burchette and husband 
            Steven, and Ben Arnott; sister and brother-in-law, Athalee and O.M. 
            Chase, Gray; three nieces and one nephew; several great-nieces and 
            great-nephews; and good friend, George Morrison. 
            Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson 
            Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Richard Harris and the Rev. Bruse Hullette 
            officiating. 
            Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Mount Carmel. 
            Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 311 
            Cypress Street, Mount Carmel, Tenn. 37645. 

            Cora Chase, 93, Gray.

            GRAY - Cora Ethel Wheelock Chase, 93, passed away Sunday (Dec. 2, 
            2001) at Wexford House. 
            Born in Jonesborough on Oct. 25, 1908, she was the daughter of the 
            late Grover Cleveland Wheelock and Bertie Elizabeth Combs Wheelock. 
            Mrs. Chase was a homemaker and attended West Colonial Hills Baptist 
            Church. 
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
            husband, Haskel Lee Chase, in 1969; sister, Rosie Strickler; 
            brothers, Willie Wheelock and Virgil Wheelock. 
            Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, J.D. and June Chase 
            and Dennis and Pat Chase, of Kingsport, Ornie and Charlotte Chase 
            and Leonard and Peggy Chase, of Gray; three grandchildren, Les 
            Chase, Steve Chase and Brian Chase; two great-grandchildren, Matt 
            Chase and Leah Chase; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Vincent 
            Murray, of Gray; several nieces, nephews and friends. 
            Calling hours will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson 
            Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel with Pastor Paul Sheaffer and Pastor Bob Yates officiating. 
            Burial will be in Eastern Star Cemetery. 
            Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

            Building Fund, 1202 Kendrick Creek Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37663. 

            Chadwick Clark, 25, Pennington Gap, Va.

            PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - Chadwick (Chad) Bruce Clark, 25, passed away 
            early Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) as a result of an automobile accident. 

            He graduated from Lee High School in 1994. He was presently employed 
            by Cumberland Resources of Norton, Va. 
            Surviving are two sons, Joshua Clark and Chris Jones; and his 
            fianceé of 10 years, Paula Twombly, all of Woodway, Va.; his 
            parents, Rufus and Cathy Clark, of Woodway, Va.; two sisters, 
            Heather Clark and Brandy Osborne, both of Woodway, Va.; two half 
            brothers, Anthony Rash and Dana Wilder, both of Jonesville, Va.; 
            paternal grandmother, Ann Clark, of Duffield, Va.; one niece, 
            Makayla Ward, of Duffield, Va.; several aunts, uncles, cousins and 
            friends. 
            Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Sturgill Funeral 
            Home, Pennington Gap. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the 
            funeral home with the Rev. Bob Clark officiating. 
            Music will be provided by the Robinette Chapel Church Singers. 
            Interment will follow in the Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Va. 
            Pallbearers will be Steve Fritz, Leonard Fritz, Ronnie Miles, Rick 
            Head, Billy Castle and Kevin Young. 

            Hazel Moles Cody, 94, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Hazel Moles Cody, 94, died at 5 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 1, 
            2001) at Wexford House. 
            Mrs. Cody was born in Hancock County and had resided in Kingsport 
            since 1945. Hazel was a licensed practitioner nurse at Holston 
            Valley Medical Center, retiring in 1973. 
            Mrs. Cody was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a 
            member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Cody in 1971; 
            daughter, Mrs. Alice Burdge; and son, Bruce Cody. 
            Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Patsy) Trent, Kingsport; sons, 
            Joe Kenneth Cody, Kingsport, Ben Cody and wife Chassie, Kingsport; 
            daughter-in-law, Ruby Cody, Kingsport; 14 grandchildren; several 
            great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Haskel (Lola) Mathis, Rogersville. 

            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral 
            Home, downtown. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel with Dr. Ronald L. Davis officiating. 
            Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Hill 
            Cemetery. 

            Betty R. Dockery, 67, Fall Branch.
               
            FALL BRANCH - Graveside services for Betty Ruth Dockery, 67, 319 
            Church Road South, who went to be with the Lord at 2:24 p.m. Friday 
            (Nov. 30, 2001), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Poplar 
            Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. 
            Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. 
            Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

            Eva Gulley, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Eva Gulley passed away Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) in the 
            Hillside Health Care Center after a period of declining health.

            Grace Jones, 92, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Grace Fay Tate Jones, 92, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at 
            Brookhaven Health Care. 
            Born in Sullivan County (Arcadia), she had spent most of her life in 
            Hawkins County (Ross Camp Grounds). Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a 
            member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Clay Jones; parents, 
            Charlie Tate and Sarah Jane Monroe Tate; half sister, Mable Moore; 
            and half brother, James Harmon Tate. 
            Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Oliver G. Jones and 
            wife Betty, Rockville, Md.; daughters, Ms. Imogene Bailey, 
            Kingsport, and Ms. Lennis Meade, Church Hill; four grandchildren, 
            John F. Bailey, Randall Bailey, Terry Lynn Jones Turner, and a 
            special granddaughter, Kim Prater; two great-grandchildren; sister, 
            Mrs. Nannie Mae Young, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. 

            Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Carter-Trent 
            Funeral Home, downtown. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating. 
            Music will be provided by the Darrell Birchett Trio. 
            Graveside services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill 
            Cemetery. 
            Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery by 9:40 a.m. 
            Wednesday. 

            John R. Lawson, 39, Kingsport.
               
            Services for John R. Lawson, 39, of 1525 Kings Road, Kingsport, who 
            died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in 
            the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, with Ed 
            Clevinger and Hugh Thompson, ministers officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Entombment services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill 
            Mausoleum.

            Gertrude M. Light, 89, Kingsport.
               
            Services for Gertrude Maude Light, 89, 1924 Bowater Lane, Kingsport, 
            who went to be with the Lord Friday (Nov. 30, 2001), will be 
            conducted at 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, 
            with Pastor Stanley Sims officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill 
            Cemetery. 

            Odis Maddux, 83, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Odis Matilda Harris Maddux, 83, of Konnarock Road, 
            departed this life Friday evening (Nov. 30, 2001) at Wellmont 
            Holston Valley Medical Center. 
            A native of Washington County, Va., she was a homemaker and a member 
            of First Baptist Church of Kingsport. Mrs. Maddux was a member of 
            Fidelis Sunday School Class. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Harris and 
            Otra Litton Harris; sisters, Mable Drusk, Gladys Crawford, Myrtle 
            Hurt and Ardis Faust; and brother, Ted Harris. 
               
            Odis was a loving wife of Robert Leonard Maddux for 66 years. 
            November 30 was their anniversary. Also surviving are her daughters 
            and sons-in-law, Barbara and Edsel Craft, of Memphis, Betty and 
            Michael Basham, of Wise, Va., and Carolyn and Jack Osteen, of Banner 
            Elk, N.C.; grandchildren, Dr. Robert Craft, of Knoxville, Jacqueline 
            Mikuleza, of Huntersville, N.C., Dr. Christopher Basham, of Bristol, 
            Va., Jonathan Osteen, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michelle Wells, of Emory, 
            Va., Jill Moseley, of Virginia Beach, Va., Joshua Osteen and 
            Jennifer Osteen, both of Pensacola, Fla.; great-grandchildren, 
            Jennifer and Kris Montsinger, Marie, Thomas and Matthew Makuleza, 
            Luke and Samuel Basham, and Kaitlyn Osteen; sister and 
            brother-in-law, Audaleen and Elmer McNutt, Bristol, Va.; 
            sisters-in-law, Mrs. Scott (Clara Faye) Woods, Mrs. F.M. (Juanita) 
            Bays, Elsie Derting and Wilma Sue Wilson. 
            Burial will be at 11 a.m. today in Holston View Cemetery. 
            Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go to 
            the cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. 
            Honorary pallbearers will be members of Big Brothers Sunday School 
            class and Dr. Locke Carter. 
            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist 
            Church of Kingsport.

            arrangements. 

            Virgie McDavid, 94, Gate City, Va.
               
            GATE CITY, Va. - Services for Virginia "Virgie" Lou Helbert McDavid, 
            94, who entered into rest at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation 
            Hillside on Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001), will be conducted 1 p.m. 
            Tuesday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home 
            with the Rev. R.D. Stallard officiating. 
            Music will be provided by Junior Smith and Family Tradition. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Burial will follow the services in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber 
            City, Va.

            Edith Marie Moore, 81, Norton, Va.

            NORTON, Va. - Edith Marie Lovell Moore, 81, died Saturday (Dec. 1, 
            2001) at Bristol Nursing Home, Bristol, Tenn. 
            She was the daughter of the late William M. and Lillie Mae Lovell. 
            She spent most of her life in the Wise County area. The last 15 
            years were spent in Lee County near Jonesville, Va. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Virgil Moore; two 
            sisters, Thelma Huff and Edna M. Couch; three brothers, Curtis L. 
            Lovell, William Clarence Lovell and Johnny E. Lovell. 
            Surviving are several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 
            Family and friends will be received at 10 a.m. today at the Hagy & 
            Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Laurel 
            Grove Cemetery in Norton. 

            Vincent C. Roberts, 47, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Services for Vincent C. Roberts, 47, who died Saturday 
            (Dec. 1, 2001), will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of

            Annis Ruth Smith, 75, Keokee, Va.

            KEOKEE, Va. - Annis Ruth Smith, 75, of Route 1, died Saturday (Dec. 
            2, 2001) at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. 
            Born in Keokee, Va., she had been a resident of Lee County (Keokee) 
            her entire life. She was a homemaker and member of Raw Hide 
            Missionary Baptist Church, Route 1, Keokee. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Fannie Smith; 
            and several brothers and sisters. 
            Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Romona Smith, 
            Keokee; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and six 
            stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Jack Smith, Detroit, Mich.; 
            sister, Flora Palmer, Keokee; several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Province Funeral 
            Home, Pennington Gap. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the sanctuary of the 
            funeral home.

            Roy Cecil Statzer, 67, Duffield, Va.

            DUFFIELD, Va. - Roy Cecil Statzer, 67, of Duffield, died Sunday 
            (Dec. 2, 2001) at his residence. 
            Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by The Duffield 
            Funeral Home at Thomas Village. 

            Elmo Thacker, Norton, Va.

            NORTON, Va. - Elmo Thacker died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Wellmont 
            Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn. 
            He was a resident of Norton Regency Towers. Born to the late Henry 
            and Elizabeth Craiger Thacker, he was a lifelong resident of the 
            Blackwood and Norton area. 
            He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of 
            the Purple Heart Medal. 
            Surviving are two sisters, Opal Mullins, Blackwater, Va., and Martha 
            Thacker Teasley, Norton; one brother, Homer Thacker, Wise, Va.; and 
            several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Hagy & Fawbush 
            Funeral Home in Norton. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel. 
            Burial will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with VFW Post No. 
            4301 and DAV Charter No. 56 conducting military burial rites. 

            Pearl Vaughan, 89, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Pearl Livesay Vaughan, 89, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at 
            Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation - Hillside. 
            Born Aug. 1, 1912 in Hancock County, she was a resident of 
            Kingsport. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport and 
            a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class since 1956. She was a 
            troop leader of the Girl Scouts of America and a troop leader of the 
            Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the Women's Moose Lodge, 
            the Livesay Association, and a member of the Long Island Chapter of 
            the Daughters of the American Revolution. 
            Se was preceded in death by her husband, Ray T. Vaughan; her 
            brothers, Chris Davis Livesay and Howard Taft Livesay; her sister, 
            Martha Ester Livesay; and her granddaughter, Amy Vaughan Weems. 
            Surviving are her son, Thomas Livesay Vaughan; and daughter, Mary 
            Vaughan Klock, Kingsport. 
            Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oak Hill 
            Funeral Home. 
            Services will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home with 
            Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. 
            Graveside services will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. 
            In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions 
            be made to the First Baptist Church of Kingsport, 200 West Church 
            Circle, Kingsport, Tenn. 37600.

            Sylvia Wolfenbarger, 78, Ewing, Va.

            EWING, Va. - Graveside services for Sylvia Estep Wolfenbarger, 78, 
            who passed away Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001), will be conducted at 11 
            a.m. today in Hopewell Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Gulley and the 
            Rev. Mike Sutton officiating. 
            Pallbearers will be Eric Wolfenbarger, Ryan Wolfenbarger, Kenny 
            Rutherford, Norman Jones, Doug Mustard and Bill Wolfenbarger. 
            Honorary pallbearers will be members of Old Yellow Creek Baptist 
            Church #2. 
            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church of your 
            choice or the American Cancer Society.
