Calif. - Marvin Dennie Bradshaw, 58, 1557 East 4th St.,
passed away Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2001) at his home following an
apparent heart attack.
Mr. Bradshaw was a native of Church Hill but had lived in California
for several years. He was a sales representative for the Nordstrom
Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edsel and Willa Bray
Bradshaw; brothers, Conley Arlen Bradshaw and Larry Bradshaw;
sister-in-law, Linda Davis.
Surviving are two aunts, Mrs. Cornelia Bray Hobbs, Weber City, and
Mrs. Gladys Bray Bellamy, Kingsport; one uncle, Hardy H. Bray,
Kingsport; one cousin, Mrs. Willie Seals Arnold, Church Hill;
special children, Diane and Gary Price, Susie and Terry Armstrong,
both of Church Hill.

(Dec. 7, 2001) at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital after an extended
illness.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service and was a
member of Big Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.D. and Mae Brooks; two
sisters, Elsie Wolfe and Imogene Livesay.

BRANCH - Troy "Dick'' Denzil Hood, 72, went to be with the Lord
Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at his residence.
Dick was born Feb. 29, 1929 in Fall Branch and was the son of the
late James Elmer and Monnie Dillow Hood. He retired as owner and
operator of Hood Construction Company working with heavy equipment.
He attended the Mill Creek Baptist Church, was an avid NASCAR race
fan, a lifetime member of the volunteer fire department of Fall
Branch and a retired sub-carrier for the postal service in Fall
Branch.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother,
Orville Lee Hood.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Joann Whaley Hood, of the home;
his son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Ginger Hood of Fall Branch;
sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert S. Multon of Johnson
City, Lois Lewis of Jonesborough; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy
and Kristie Hood of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

- Evelyn Fain Hicks Laughlin passed away Thursday
(December 6, 2001).
She was a lifelong resident of the Arcadia community and a member of
Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Laughlin taught Home Economics at Ketron High School and
Sullivan North High School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Laughlin Jr.;
and parents, Wesley Fain and Laura Brown Hicks.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Evelyn Laughlin Clonce and
husband, Jimmy Clonce, Jr., of Nashville; two sons, William Brown
Laughlin, Church Hill and Thomas Fain Laughlin, Radford, Va.; two

brother, Lynn Wesley Hicks, Kingsport; one niece, Jennifer Lynn

He was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church in Grainger County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Raby and Nettie Moore
Raby; brothers, Lewis Raby, Joe Raby, Cliff Raby and Riley Raby;
sisters May Sloan, Ressie Dalton and Hazel Moore.

Raby of Columbus, Ga.; one sister, Imogene Wilder and husband, Grant

Mrs. Reynolds was a native of Sullivan County and daughter of Zelma
Dolores Kester Williams, Gate City, Va., and the late Grover
McDonald Williams.
She was a medical transcriptionist and homemaker.
She was a member of Blairs Chapel and the Rebecca Lodge in Gate
City.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Owen Lee
Watts, of the home; one son, Billy "B.J." Reynolds, Tampa, Fla.; a
daughter, Ginger R. Johnson, New Bern, N.C.; a brother, Joe Floyd
Williams, Gate City, Va.; and a grandson, Henry Owen Johnson, New

- Hubert H. Rowland, 83, 104 Shipp Springs Road, died
Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at Church Hill Health Care after a
courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Hawkins County (Surgoinsville) and had lived in
Kingsport most of his life. He operated a flea market on the corner
of Bloomingdale Pike and Shipp Springs Road for several years.
He retired from Eastman after over 33 years of service. He loved to
hunt and fish.
He was a member of Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Ann Redden; his
parents, John R. Rowland and Clara Fleenor Rowland; four brothers,
Lawrence Rowland, Robert Rowland, Calvin Rowland and Lyle Rowland.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Neil Rowland, of the home; son, Ricky
Rowland, Kingsport; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
sister, Mildred Lee, Surgoinsville; brothers, Conner R. Rowland and
wife, Grace, Surgoinsville and Kyle K. Rowland, Rosemead, Calif.;
and several nieces and nephews.

- Vernoy Riddle Sexton, 82, 696 Lynch Road, died Thursday
(Dec. 6, 2001) after a period of declining health.
Vernoy was born Oct. 30, 1919 in Coeburn, Va., and was the son of
the late James E. and Martha Riddle Sexton. He retired after 38
years of service from Union Carbine of Oak Ridge as a chemical
operator.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Knoxville and was a
veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Edith Creech Sexton; and a brother, Robert Sexton.
Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Jim Sexton of Kingsport,
John W. Sexton and his wife Debbie of Knoxville; grandchildren,
Ronda Roller, Kerby Sexton and Kate Sexton; a great-granddaughter,
Jessica Gilliam; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Maxie Pippin of
Kingsport; two brothers, Elmer Sexton of Church Hill and Billy
Sexton of Mount Carmel.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the East Lawn
Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Frank Crawford officiating.

Va. for the last 20 years. She was of the Freewill Baptist fiath.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Sturgill; her father,
Dan Chandler and her mother, Donia (Jones) Chandler; and a sister,
Edith Bledsoe.
Surviving are four sons, Dan Moore, Norton, Va., James Sturgill and
wife, Angela, Steve Sturgill and Cody Sturgill, all of Pennington
Gap, Va.; one daughter, Maxine Gilliam, Appalachia, Va.; eight
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Milhorne,
