KINGSPORT - Omer James Blakley, 95, Rock Springs community, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of the Rock Springs community and a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Blakley was a veteran of World War II, and owner of Blakley Floor Sanding and Refinishing Company. Preceding him in death were his wife, Zula Blakley, on Sept. 23, 1984; a son, Jim Blakley, on Feb. 27, 1973; a granddaughter, Cindy Blakley Cooke, on Sept. 16, 2000; an infant grandson, Nicky Carter, on Dec. 18, 1966; and a daughter-in-law, Norma Blakley. Mr. Dougherty was born in Church Hill, and had lived most of his life in Fall Branch and several years in Kingsport. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a man who knew everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter T. and Minnie Ellen Sage Dougherty; brother, Walter T. Dougherty Jr.; and sister, Elizabeth Gott. Surviving are his daughters, Sandra S. Toler and Patricia A. Turnmire, both of Fall Branch; son, Charles M. A native of Lee County, Va., she had been a resident of Maryland for about 50 years. She was retired from department store work and currently worked part time. She was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Trent was a graduate of Boones Creek High School and had worked as operations manager for Humboldt Trucking and was currently vice-president of operations of Specialized Transportation Services. Mr. Trent was active in the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, VFW and AmVets, Johnson City, and the Eagles Club, Kingsport. Alpha was a well-respected member of her community, who will be remembered for her quiet loving ways, and her never-ending ability to give of herself to whomever needed a helping hand or a listening ear.
