Born April 20, 1940 in Scott County, Va., he was a son of the late Clyde Otis Baker and Cecil P. Owens Baker Begley. Surviving are his son, Joshua W. Baker, Dungannon, Va.; sister, Mattie Horton, Kingsport; brothers, Jimmy Baker, Dungannon, Va., Jackie R. Begley, Ft. Blackmore, Va., and James Roy Begley, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; stepbrothers, Ralph Begley, Whitesburg, Ky., and Arnold Begley, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews. KINGSPORT - Omer James Blakley, 95, Rock Springs community, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of the Rock Springs community and a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Blakley was a veteran of World War II, and owner of Blakley Floor Sanding and Refinishing Company. Preceding him in death were his wife, Zula Blakley, on Sept. 23, 1984; a son, Jim Blakley, on Feb. 27, 1973; a granddaughter, Cindy Blakley Cooke, on Sept. 16, 2000; an infant grandson, Nicky Carter, on Dec. 18, 1966; and a daughter-in-law, Norma Blakley. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Harold Shipley, Knoxville, Mary and Bill Nash, Kingsport, Linda and Bert Carter, Kingsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Phyllis Blakley, Fall Branch, Bob and Catharine Blakley, Kingsport; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Iva J. Charles H. Dougherty, 70, Kingsport. KINGSPORT - Charles H. Dougherty, 70, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Ridgecrest Manor in Duffield, Va. Mr. Dougherty was born in Church Hill, and had lived most of his life in Fall Branch and several years in Kingsport. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a man who knew everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter T. and Minnie Ellen Sage Dougherty; brother, Walter T. Dougherty Jr.; and sister, Elizabeth Gott. Surviving are his daughters, Sandra S. Toler and Patricia A. Turnmire, both of Fall Branch; son, Charles M. Dougherty, Fall Branch; stepson, John Wright, Mount Carmel; stepdaughter, Rhonda Guthrie, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; companion and best friend, Olene Wright, Kingsport. She was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church. Mrs. Montgomery enjoyed reading, crocheting, macrame and sewing. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebecca's Lodge in Kingsport. Virginia Shupe, 75, Jessup, Md. JESSUP, Md. - Virginia Roberts Shupe, 75, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at the residence of her daughter, Helen Rhymer, in Jessup. A native of Lee County, Va., she had been a resident of Maryland for about 50 years. She was retired from department store work and currently worked part time. She was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hallie Handshell Roberts; one sister, Pearl Jerrell; and one brother, Meb Roberts. JOHNSON CITY - Roy Melvin Trent, 57, 2207 Kipping St., died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Washington County, Tenn., and had lived here most of his life. He was the son of William Chester Trent and Oma Lucille Bearfield Trent, both of Johnson City. Mr. Trent was a graduate of Boones Creek High School and had worked as operations manager for Humboldt Trucking and was currently vice-president of operations of Specialized Transportation Services. Mr. Trent was active in the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, VFW and AmVets, Johnson City, and the Eagles Club, Kingsport. In addition to his parents, survivors are his wife, Norma Shell Trent; a daughter, Elizabeth Trent, Johnson City; a son, Thomas Trent, Blountville; three grandchildren, Shea, Preston and Kristen Trent, all of Blountville; two brothers, Robert Trent and William C. GATE CITY, Va. - Alpha Blanche Stallard Vermillion, 96, went to be with the Lord Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at her residence. She was a native of Scott County, Va., a former school teacher in the Scott County School System, and a former store owner. She was a member of Midway Memorial United Methodist Church. Alpha was a well-respected member of her community, who will be remembered for her quiet loving ways, and her never-ending ability to give of herself to whomever needed a helping hand or a listening ear. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie B. Vermillion; parents, Willard R. Stallard and Nancy E. Akers Stallard; sisters, Venus Nickels, Orpha Onks, Tenafair Hayes and Elva Alley; brothers, Malcolm Stallard, Woodrow Stallard and four infant brothers; son-in-law, John Fisher.
