Merritt C. Leidich Sr., 83, of 1408 New Jersey Ave., Hellertown, died Tuesday in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was married to the late Anna M. Durish.

Born in Hellertown, he was the son of the late Otto and Annie Ackerman Leidich.

He was employed in the Coke Plant of Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 40 years before retiring.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown.

He was also a member of the Dewy Fire Co., Hellertown.

He is survived by a son, Merritt C. Jr. of Bethlehem; a daughter, Delores L. Ward of Hellertown and a sister, Carrie Gruver of Hellertown, and a granddaughter, Patricia E. Ward of Hellertown. He was predeceased by two brothers, Willis A. Sr. and Harry; two sisters, Anna Stout and Stella Reiss.

Private services will be held Friday in the church. No calling hours. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Hellertown.

Memorials can be sent to the church, 69 Main St., Hellertown.

WILLIS LEIDICH SR., 72; HELLERTOWN CIVIC LEADER

Willis A. Leidich Sr., 72, of 1404 Washington St., Hellertown, died Tuesday in St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Edna E. (Grube) Leidich. They observed their 40th wedding anniversary last June.

He worked in the No. 2 Bridge Shop of Bethlehen Steel Corp. for 37 years before retiring in 1976.

Born in Hellertown, he was a son of the late Otto and Anie (Ackerman) Leidich.

For many years until his death, Leidich was financial secretary of the Dewey Fire Co., Hellertown. In 1954, he was secretary of the committee that purchased an ambulance for the community. He was a former trustee of the fire company, a member of the fire company's ambulance squad and was an active fire policeman.

In addition, he was an instructor for the Red Cross first aid program, and received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Hellertown Jaycees.

Leidich was a member of Christ Lutheran church, Hellertown, where he was a former trustee and choir member. He was acting superintendent of the Sunday School.

Surviving with his widow are a son, Willis A. Jr. of Bethlehem; a daughter, Shirley M., at home; a brother, Merrit C. Sr., and a sister, Carrie Gruver, both of Hellertown.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, 326 Main St., Hellertown. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Ruth F. Leidich, 76, of Bethlehem, died Monday, Nov. 5, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Robert W. Leidich Jr. They were married for 55 years in May.
Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Anna M. (Beers) Frey and an adopted daughter of the late William and Ida Hoffert.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bethlehem.
She was a member of Steel City Rod and Gun Club and the Hellertown Sportsmen's Association.
Survivors: Husband; sons, Hollis G. of Breinigsville, Mark R. of Bethlehem; sister, Doris Derkosh of Palmerton; a granddaughter.

Charles J. Henne, 77, an educator who worked in the schools of southeastern Pennsylvania for more than 40 years, died yesteray at Lancaster General Hospital. Formerly of Ardmore, he lived in Lancaster County in the town of Lititz. A graduate of Albright College, he did his graduate work at Bucknell and the University of Pennsylvania. He taught in schools in Berks, Lancaster and Montgomery Counties. He began his career as a science teacher and then added the duties and title of principal at Terre Hill High School in Lancaster County. He started on the job shortly before the stock market crash in 1929. A few years later, he moved to Berks County, filling similar posts at Wilson High in West Lawn. During the latter part of World War II, he worked at the Jacobs Aircraft Co. in Pottstown and served as a counselor for delinquents in Reading. After the war, he joined the faculty at Lower Merion High School, teaching and working as a guidance counselor. He retired in 1972 after 25 years of service in the Lower Merion system. Active in Masonic affairs, Mr. Henne was a member of several Shrine temples. He was former president of the Lititz Senior Citizens Club and an active member of the Moravian Church there. Surviving are his wife, Marion Sloyer Henne; two daughters, Barbara Ann Wanamaker amd Sandra L. Innes; and four grandchildren. Friends may call at the Heisey Funeral Home, 216 S. Broad St., Lititz, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Moravian Church in Lititz. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ardmore.

John W. Sloyer, 74, formerly of 824 Jackson St., Allentown, died Friday in Cedarbrook, South Whitehall Township. He was the husband of Thelma V. (Swoyer) Sloyer. They were married 49 years last August.
He was a salesman for Bittner Hunsicker Wholesale Dry Goods, Allentown, for 20 years until retiring in 1975.
Born in Hellertown, he was a son of the late Harvey and Mabel (Hauser) Sloyer.
He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Allentown.
Survivors: Wife; sons, Ronald B. of Arcadia, Calif., and Richard H. of Allentown; sister, Julia, wife of Ira Yoder of Kettering, Ohio, and three grandchildren.
Graveside services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Union Cemetery, Hellertown. No calling hours. Arrangements, Stephens Funeral Home, 1335-37 Linden St., Allentown.
