Delbert M. SLOYER

A former Emporian, Delbert M. SLOYER of Wichita, died Saturday morning at the Long Beach Community Hospital, Long Beach, Calif. He had lived on the West Coast for the past three months. He had retired earlier this year as a buyer and supervisor for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita; after working for the company for 26 years.

The funeral will be held in Emporia on Thursday at 10:30 A.M., in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel. The Rev. hugh MARSH of the First Presbyterian Church will conduct the service. Members of the Ball-McColm Post 5 of the American Legion will conduct a graveside service in Maplewood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 A.M. Wednesday. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home.

The son of Jess and Lenna R. WHITAKER SLOYER, he was born in Emporia on Aug. 2, 1920, and was graduated from Emporia High School. He served with the U.S. Marines in World War II and was a member of the Emporia Legion Post. He was also a member of Albert-Pike Masonic Lodge in Wichita, the Wichita Consistory of Scottish Rite and Midian Shrine.

Survivors include a son, Mark SLOYER of Long Beach; a daughter, Judy BROWN of Hawthornem Calif., and two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Nicholette SLOYER.

Mr. Messinger was born on May 14, 1932 in Easton, PA to Frank E. Messinger and Hilda Strerner. He moved to the area from Easton in 2007. He was a licensed electrician with Binney and Smith Inc and was of the Protestant Faith. Mr. Messinger was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and belonged to the VFW in Easton, PA. Raymond F. Messinger, 73, of Berwick, PA died January 20, 2010 in his sons home. He had been employeed by the Dixie Cup Co. from 1957 to 1977 and was a graduate of the Radio Television Technical School. A die-hard Yankee and Jets fan, avid golfer and Easton sports enthusiast, he also served in the Army.
Survivors: son, Frankie and wife Franny of Phillipsburg; brothers, Harvey, Easton, Earnet, Bath; sister, Lorraine Fazekas, Hazelton; grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica; and great-grandson, Christopher, II.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton. Calling period 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

HOUSTON -- Jack E. Messinger 80, Houston, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, at a Houston Hospital, formerly of Flat Rock, MI.

Mr. Messinger was an officer on the Railroad/Ann Arbor Railroads when he retired in 1976. He was born July 29, 1915, at Topeka, Kan., the son of Alvin and Kathryn Messinger. He wasreared in Topeka and was graduated from Topeka High School.

Jack was an Officer on the Exceutive board of The Detroit and Toledo Railroad/Ann Arbor
Railroads and retired in 1976 whereupon they settled in Houston.

Mr. Messinger was a lifelong member of the Masonic Order, Hiram Lodge No. 110 and a 50-year member of the Moslem Temple, Valley of Detroit Shiner's Club.

He was married to the former Flora Maxine Dearing in 1934 in Topeka, Kan., she survives.
Other suvivors include two daughters Sharon Zaludek and Sandy Fredricks, both of Houston; a sister, Evelyne Kirchmer, Topeka, Kan., and a brother Bill Messinger, Granite, City, ILL.; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Tuesday, July 9, 1996, at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel at
Houston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Texas Heart Institute, 1101 Bates,
Houston, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Tea honors retiring Red Cross official
A tea Tuesday afternoon honored Mrs. C. Evelyne Still, who is retiring as office manager of
the Kansas Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Still has been a staff member for 21 years. She has served in various departments
including service to military families.
The tea was given by Red Cross volunteers and friedns, who presented her with a monetary
gift.

Mrs. Still and her husband Howard, who recently retired from Kansas Power and Light Co., plan to travel.

C. Evelyne Still Kirchmer, 86, Topeka, died Thursday. June 19, 2003 in Hospice House.

She was born Feb. 25, 1917 in (Dearborn, Mich. crossed out) Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Alvin and Kate Messinger.

Evelyne was a member of the National Campers and Hiker's Association, where she and her husband, Howard Still, served as retiree directors for the state of Kansas for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Wagonears Camping Club, Sunchasers and Capitol Group, all in Topeka.

She married Rorick Baker. They were divorced. She married Howard Still on Jan. 10, 1963. He died Sept. 4, 1988. She later married Clarence Kirchmer. He died in January 2000. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Rick Wallace and Robert Baker.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Decker, Topeka; two sons: Ronald Baker, Lake Wabaunsee, and Kenneth Still, Englewood, Fla.; a step-son, Delbert Still, Dana Point, Calif; a brother, Bill Messinger, Granite City, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. A private graveside service will follow. Mrs. Kirchmer will lie in state from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, in Evelyne's name.

Howard J. Still 76, Topeka, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 1988, at a Topeka hospital. He had cancer. Mr Still was a repairman for the Kansas Power & Light Company many years before he retired December 1, 1976. He was born November 23, 1911, at Norwalk, Conn., the son of Isaac Henry and Susan Wooters Still. He grew up in New York and had lived in Topeka for many years.

Mr. Still was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and was the retiree field director for the State of Kansas for the association. He was also a member of the Wagonears Camping Club and the Capitol Sun Chasers. Mr. Still was a member of Auburn Lodge No 32, AF&AM, at Auburn, and Scottish Rite bodies and Arab Shrine, all in Topeka.

He was married to Evelyne Messinger January 10,1963, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Still, Ozawkie, and Ronald Baker, Topeka; a daughter, Marilynn Decker, Topeka; a brother, Henry Still in NewJersey; a sister, Jean Tracy, Florida; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 A. M. Wednesday at Penwell-Gable Funeral Home. Auburn Lodge No 32, AF&AM, will conduct graveside services at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Shawnee County Unit, 2913 Plass Court, 66611; or to Topeka Hospice Inc., 824 Washburn, Topeka, 66606.
