John J. Garis, Jr., of Neenah, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at Vallhaven Care Center. He was born on December 11, 1920 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, son of the late John J. Garis, Sr. and Florence (Kressler) Lieberman. John married Verna Judd on July 4, 1942, in Lower Saucan, Pennsylvania. He is a retired Lt. Col. for the United States Air Force. He was also a weather forecaster, a pilot and flight instructor. John was a Senior Scientist with American National Can and James River Corp.
He was a life member of the NRA and also an honorary member of the Appleton Rifle & Pistol Club. John and his wife were also members of First United Methodist Church, Neenah.
John is survived by his wife, Verna; a daughter, Dotty Rippl, her children, Jason and Justin Rippl; a son, Eric (Caroleen) Garis and their children, Brian (Erin) Garis, Christina Garis; and great-grandchildren, Molly and Samuel Garis. He is further survived by other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Clayton Thatcher.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004, at Neenah’s Westgor Funeral Home, with Rev. Evelyn Mingle officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

Miles V. Bush Sr., 68, of Trachsville, died Friday, June 16, in the hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Geraldine (Shive) Bush who died in 1992.
He was an electrician doing residential and commercial work until his retirement in 1977.
Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Victor and Lottie (Moll) Bush.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and earned the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. Prior to serving in combat he was a courier at the Pentagon.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5588, Effort, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16.
He was also a member of the Palmerton, Petersville, Kunkletown, and Ontelaunee hunting clubs.
Survivors: Companion, Betty Gruber of Palmerton; sons, Miles V. Jr. of Palmerton R.2, Robert of Bethlehem; daughters, Shirley, wife of John Kline Sr. of Kresgeville, Mary Ann, wife of Robert Mangan of Trachsville; sisters, Eleanor Hallman, Marion Weaver, Joyce Boksan and Nancy Ann Wagner, all of Bethlehem, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: Noon Tuesday, Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert. Call 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

He was a draftsman for Nazareth Steel Fabricators for 27 years until the company closed in 1982.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of Arlene (Heiney) Wagner of Tatamy and the late Warren Wagner.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Bethlehem.
Wagner was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving with his widow and mother are a son, Keith B., at home; a sister Sharon, wife of Joseph M. Pinto of Bangor, and three brothers, Richard L. and Gary L., both of Nazareth, and Ronald D. of Boyertown.
Services will be at 1 p.m Wednesday in the Wallace M. Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem. A calling hour will precede the services.
