Masters of Sail by Stanley T. Spicer

Masters of Sail. by Stanley T. Spicer [The Ryerson Press, Toronto, 1968]. The Era of Square-rigged Vessels in the Maritime Provinces.

Spicer describes this book as a labor of love. This is not surprising as he includes a full page photo of his father, a notable Master Mariner of the era being described. There is less here for the genealogist than in Wallace's book, but more on the economics of ship building and owning. Even more detail on the economics of the period is in Sager and Panting's book. A detailed description of the building of wooden ships is provided in Parker's book.
