Giles Jansen Aegidus de Mandeville

SHIP PASSENGER LIST NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY page 234-235.
Giles Jansen de Mandeville and his wife Elsie Hendricks, fled from Rouen to escape persecution and came to America in 1649 on the ship "Faith", settling first in Nieu Amsterdam. He was born about 1625 in Normandy and was married 1648, in Holland, to Elsie Hendricks. He died about 1701 in New Amsterday. His children married and came to New Jersey, settling in the Passaic Valley.

GENEALOGIES OF LONG ISLAND FAMILIES Volume II pg 626.  James Riker [Ref 28, pgs 111/112] states that Gillis [written also Yellis or Giles] Jansen De Mandeville came from Garderen in the Veluwe, Gelderland, with wife Elsie Hendricks and four children.
We find in Ref 14, Vol 3, Pg 53, that they came in the ship "Faith", February, 1659; the version shown in Ref 17, Page 9 states that the ages of the children were 1 1/4, 5, 6, and 9 years.  Ref 14, Vol 3, pg 55 shows Gilis Mandeville as if coming in the Ship "Moesman" in April, 1659, but this entry is said to indicate only that he was a debtor for a small sum advanced to him [Ref. 38, Vol 38, Page 285, and Ref 17, Page 9].

Dominie Selyns states, in his records of New York, 1686 [Ref 18, Page 34], that Jillis Mandevil and his wife Elsie Hendrix, also Grietje Mandevil, lived beyound the Fresh Water [Old Point]. The will of Jellis Mandeviell of Greenwich, County of New York, dated Sept 15, 1696, proved May 22, 1701 [Ref 1, Book 1-2, Page 109 of Book 2--now 372[ [See Ref 27, Vol 1, pg 102].

Descendent of Yellis [Gillis] [Giles] Jansen deMandeville was Mrs. El Dora Mandeville Steward born in Brooktondale, NY with of George H. Stewart.  Yellis Jansen de Mandeville was an Original Proprietor of New Amersfoort [Flatlands] and Patentee of Greenwich Bowry [Manhatten], New York. He was born in Holland and died in New York.
