John Trueblood

There are two possible fathers for John of Shoreditch -the immigrant. Arnold Trueblood of Beckingham, Lincolnshire, a Quaker who was to die in Lincoln Castle for his beliefs; and William Trueblood of Cripplegate, London, a prosperous baker and butcher. No one knows for sure who John's father was. Both had sons John; Arnold's John was born 14 10m 1654 and William's John was born in 1655. Before the end of 1682 they sailed up the Albermarle Sound and up the Pasquotonk River. There was a settlement of Quakers there. It is not a highly populated area now. Symons Creek Meeting house is marked by a memorial stone and on it reads "SITE OF FIRST MEETING HOUSE ERECTED BY THE RELIGIOUS SOCIETY OF FRIENDS IN NORTH CAROLINA 1705." Symons Creek runs nearby with a sign beside it. John and Agnes did not survive the hardships of the new land for long. John's will is dated "seventeenth day May 1692" and was probated "... this fourth day of July 1692" Agnes' will is written "on the fifteenth day 9m 1692 and probated "the third day 10m 1692" Mary is eight years old and Amos is under a year old.
