There is a nice park just offshore in Bar Harbor. This is where the cruise ships dock and people disembark. A very beautiful place. barharbor2.jpg

Amy on top of Cadillac Mountain. At this point, 1,532 feet, if you care to hike up the mountain you can be the first in the United States to see the sun come up. They say that on the millinium that the top of the mountain was covered. It is one of 17 mountains on Mount Desert Island. cadillac1.jpg

Cadilac Mountain is largely composed of pink granite. This rock was said to be of a much different composition so it is theorized that it was deposited here by a glacier millions of years ago. CadillacRock2.jpg

Mount Desert Rock Lighthouse. The lighthouse is used as a whale watching station and is not open to the general public. There was a peregrine falcon nest just off to the right of the lighthouse. This was at least 20 miles out of Bar Harbor. You can see the history of this lighthouse HERE desertrock.jpg

Mount Desert Rock is the fartherest land on which a New England coast lighthouse shows its warning 'light in the window.'. The first lighthouse was built in 1830. It lies over 20 miles out from Mount Desert Island. We went there whale watching. desertrock1.jpg
