George Goins, about 75, East Cleveland, was fatally injured at 7:15 a.m. Monday when struck by a southbound passenger train at Morelock Crossing on Central Avenue.
Bradley County Sheriff French A. Alford said eyewitnesses reported the elderly man "walked into the side of the train" as it crossed Central Ave. They said he apparently failed to see the on-rushing train or hear the signal bell.
Sheriff Alford said Goins was thrown clear of the tracks. He was dead when a McLain ambulance arrived. The body was taken to McLain Funeral Home and later removed to a Madisonville mortuary.
Goins resided with his son, Joe, E. 11th St. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
