"A Terrible Tragedy in Monroe County"

This article was printed in The Knoxville Whig and Chronicle on Wednesday, July 28, 1875. It regards the brutal murder of seventeen-year-old Mrs. Margaret Ann (Davis) Hunt* and unborn baby in Tellico Plains, Monroe CO, TN. Her husband Andrew Jackson "Jack" Hunt committed the atrocious double murder after only eight months and nine days of marriage. Young Margaret Ann (Davis) Hunt was four months shy of her eighteenth birthday and great with child. She is a daughter of Clement "Clem" Davis and Rachel Emeline Peek / Peak, residents of Coker Creek, Monroe CO, TN.

*from Sandra N. Ratledge: I am related to the victim through Davis family. Margaret Ann (Davis) Hunt is a first cousin to my great-grandmother, America "Merky" Sevilla (Davis) Hampton.
