The word "Knobs" refers to the softly rounded hilltops and gently sloping mountains lying in chain-like clusters along the borders of McMinn, Monroe, and Polk Counties in Southeast Tennessee. These beloved old "hills and hollers" are the predominant land features and the source of this area's geographical name. For many generations, residents have called this area the Knobs, and local folks still do so today.
