A Christmas poem for you to enjoy
by Barbara's father, William C. Smith early 1940's
I searched the heavens one clear night and saw a truly holy sight; The star that o'er the manger shone, For the sins of mortal man. It sent a shaft of light to me, Hear it speak a high-pitched note; ....."One night the Lord called me to shine At Bethleham this came to pass, The moon in all its splendor. He called me to a quiet place, Of the old tempestous earth. More than the very sun. I saw From the Inn of Bethlehem; Went to the cattle shelter there, A Child was born..... A King was given! In swaddling clothes they wrapped the babe, This ruler came in poverty; To come and humbly give to man Then shone I with a Holy light, That shepherds in their fields did fear The angels came to spread the Word, Their message filled with joy and mirth, They came and worshiped Christ, the King, And wisemen coming from the East, Thus came to worship, give their all; But when I left this Holy Scene The Christ was born in Bethlehem, He came and died, men's souls to win, .....Then I saw the star no more, Told to man by God's own voice; I looked to Him Who dwells above..... To him I give what He gave me, |
"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all
people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign
unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph,
and the babe lying in a manger." Luke 2:10-14,16
Wishing God's richest blessings to you and your family this wonderful Christmas season. With love, |
