Obituary - Ketchikan Daily News, Ketchikan, Alaska 8/26/2008

Lorraine T. Farstad, 78, died Aug. 20, 2008, in Ketchikan.

She was born to Morgan and Thelma Grude on Sept. 30, 1929, in Chicago. She resided in Chicago until 1947, and then moved with her family to Ketchikan, where she was employed at the Miners & Merchants Bank until she met and married Lars Farstad in 1948.

"They made their home at Mountain Point for the next 50 years, where she fulfilled her role as a loving and caring mother and homemaker," her family writes. "Her specialties most memorable to her family were her knitting, sewing, baking, family photo albums, and her correspondence with family and friends near and far."

Mrs. Farstad resided at the Harbormaster Condominiums for the past eight years. There, "her friends and neighbors enjoyed her gifts of baked goods and enthusiasm for the Seattle Mariners," her family writes.

"She loved Ketchikan and all its rainy days," according to her family. "Her sense of wit and humor will always put a smile on our face and laughter in our hearts.

"Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys," her family writes. "She loved attending their events, including sports and ballet."

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
