Obituary
Kenneth Cecil Johnson was born near Faith, SD on January 27, 1921 to Chester Arthur and Kate (Spilman) Johnson. He spent his entire life on the ranch 18 miles southeast of Faith until ill health forced him and Carol to move into Faith two and one half years ago.
He attended grade school at rural Mud Butte near his home, and in 1940 , graduated from a short course of Agriculture at SDSU in Brookings where he also participated in the ROTC Program.
Kenneth married Carol Frame on Nov. 21, 1940. Their first home was a sheep wagon that they purchased along with a few sheep and cattle. They lived and worked with Chester on the ranch until 1943 when the Chester Johnsons moved to the Black Hills. Later, Kenneth and Carol purchased the ranch and have operated it since that time, raising sheep and cattle for a number of years, then switching to only cattle.
Kenneth loved the ranch and tending to the livestock. He was a self-taught mechanic and could repair almost anything. He enjoyed visits from friends and family and a cup of coffee was always a must for anyone who stopped to visit.
He passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2002 at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Rapid City, SD
He is survived by his wife, Carol: two sons, Dennis and wife Welma of Arvada, CO; Dean and wife Judy of Faith, SD two daughters, Arlyce Krause and husband Butch, Faith, SD; Cheryl Schmidt and husband Darold of Rapid City, SD; Gertrude Trask, Custer, SD; Thelma and husband Jim Frame, Rapid CIty, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.
