From the January, 1921 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
The death of Alfred Billman, for 51 years a resident of Port Jervis and Matamoras, and employed first as fireman and then engineer by the Erie for a period of fifty years, was reported in the Port Jervis Gazette, which stated that decedent died as a result of an automobile accident at the age of 77 years. Twice he enlisted as a private in the Civil War, was wounded once and received an honorable discharge.
