ALVA C. ABBOTT
Born Liberty Mills, Ind. 10/21/1866. Entered service 11-01-1887. Promoted to extra conductor Jan. 10th, 1890, to take charge of Disko (Ind.) pusher. Ran from Levings to Newton on too short time ahead of 12 on 2nd 56, 02/20. Reprimanded.

Refused to come out of Chicago on D. Freight train at 6:30 p.m. June 12th for alledged reason that 2nd 90 would pass him on the road. Suspended 10 days. Suspended ten days from March 6th for pulling to west end of North Judson and backing in on time of No. 8, causing a delay of eight minutes to No. 8, Feb. 12th, 1893. Suspended five days from March 16th, 1893 for setting off three cars 81 freight for Griffith in Huntington Yard Feb. 22nd on 2nd 83, to pick up 3 air brake empties for Chicago, without permission of yardmaster. Suspended 10 days from March 21st, 1893 for failure to protect rear of his train (Extra 502 North) at State St. Mar. 4th. Resulted in his being struck by an LNA&C freight, slight damage. Suspended seven days from Sept. 16th for failure to take UTL4114 oil from Hammond on request of agent on 1st 86, Aug. 8th, 1893. Suspended five days from Oct. 22nd for failure to double to Akron when he stalled west of Levings on Extra 328 West, Oct. 14th, 1893. Resulted in delay to 2nd 1. Suspended ten days from March 1st for not complying with a 31 order to not exceed 8 miles per hour between Hoovers and Lake 16 on 94 Feb. 11th, 1895. His train was timed and made 20 miles per hour over this piece of track, which had a lot of defective rails.

Suspended 2 days for failure to pull out at Hammond on No. 87, Nov. 18th, 1895. Suspended 10 days from Dec. 16th for making a running switch with three cars of livestock at Hoovers on 1st 82, Oct. 30th, 1895, resulting in their being derailed, and suspended 50 days for making a false report of how the above accident occurred.

Suspended 7 days hauling JDP Co. Reefer 967 to Chicago in 3rd 83, Feb. 11th, 1896 when car was billed to North Judson. Suspended 7 days from April 12th for leaving Boone Grove on 2nd 86, March 28th, 1896 with but 12 minutes to make Kouts for No. 10. Was on time of latter by 12 minutes when he cleared.

Taken off Nov. 29th, 1896 for collecting and failing to cancel tickets on trains 31 & 32, Nov. 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th, 1896. Allowed to resume work pending further investigation Dec. 18th, 1896. Suspended one round trip from April 11th for handling NYLE&W ... (Carried to page 193)
