Erie Railroad Biography - Frank Calkins Bond

Frank Calkins Bond, one of the Delaware Division's most respected Engineers, died at his home at Port Jervis at 5:55 Monday afternoon, February 5th (1912), of pleuro pneumonia, after an illness of six days. Deceased was born November 18th, 1858, in Bath, N.Y., and was the son of Robert Bond and Margaret Helen Van Patten. At the age of 16, he was licensed as a stationary engineer, and was afterward employed as engineer on a tugboat, running between Albany and Troy on the Hudson River. About 35 years ago he came to Port Jervis as a locomotive fireman. He was afterwards employed as hostler in Port Jervis Yard, and for many years as Engineer on the Delaware and Wyoming Divisions.

In 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Babcock of Port Jervis, and they have always resided there. Mr. Bond was an excellent citizen, an industrious, careful and competent railroad man of considerable mechanical ability, and devoted to his home, family and friends. He was a member of Division 732, B. of L. E., and Delaware Council No. 9, Jr. O.U.A.M., Junior Delight Council No. 29. He is survived by his widow, one son, and one brother of Port Jervis, and one sister of Perth Amboy, N. J. The funeral was held at his late home, No. 18 Hammond Street, at 2:30 o'clock, services being in charge of the Jr. O.U.A.M., interment in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
