Erie Railroad Biography - George H. Beatty


From the October, 1911 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine (New York Division News):

George H. Beatty, engineer, sustained a painful injury to the middle finger of his right hand September 24 (1911). His engine broke down at Hackensack Bridge and in making temporary repairs Mr. Beatty had his finger badly bruised.




From numerous 1913 through 1915 issues of Erie Railroad Magazine:
New York Division Engineer G.H. Beatty, running engine #964, was listed as being in the Order of the Red Spot for numerous months from 1912 through 1915. The Order was an honor bestowed on engine crews who operated efficiently with few engine failures.




From the April, 1929 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
George H. Beatty, 65, of Waldwick, NJ, for many years a locomotive engineer on the New York Division of the Erie, has died. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of Waldwick; Enterprise Lodge No. 48, F&AM; Div. No. 135, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers of Jersey City; Mount William Lodge No. 105, Knights of Pythias of Port Jervis; the Masonic Club and Masonic Camp at Haverstraw, and vice-president of the Men's Community Club of Waldwick. The surviving relatives are the widow at home; a sister, Mrs. William Goble of Newton, NJ; a brother, Robert S. Beatty of Toms River, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
