Following is a biographical sketch of Mr. Elliot, whose picture appears on the page preceding:
Born on a farm in the vicinity of Albany, N.Y., on July 26th, 1879. Was educated at Albany Academy and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated in 1900. Began service on Erie Railroad on January 28th, 1901 as rodman at Hornell, N.Y., Allegheny Division. George W. Dowe was superintendent.
Mr. Elliot says: "I called at his office on my arrival and I imagine he was a little busy, but he had sufficient energy to take me about off my feet with his general "What do you want?" If I had been near a door, I am afraid my services with the Erie would of have terminated before they really began.
"E.I. Bowen was roadmaster. Feb. 1, 1902, I was appointed assistant engineer and on July 1, 1905, supervisor, and assistant master carpenter of Bradford Division, supervisor NYS&W RR, August, 1907; general foreman construction, Pennsylvania Coal Company operation at Shohola, Oct., 1908; assistant engineer Dunmore, January, 1909; assistant engineer, Susquehanna, Feb., 1909; assistant supervisor of terminals, Jersey City, March, 1909; assistant engineer NYS&W Division, April 1, 1910; assistant engineer, office engineer maintenance of way, Lines East, April 1, 1911; division engineer, Susquehanna Division, December 1st, 1911 to date."
