From the April, 1913 issue of Erie Magazine:
Engineman John Quick has reached the age limit and has retired. Mr. Quick has been with the Erie since the construction of the A. & G. Western Railway. He is a native of Cattaraugus Co., N.Y., and a lineal descendant of the famous Scout and Indian Fighter Quick, one of the earliest settlers of Western New York.
Mr. Quick, better known as "Jack," has been an engineer in the passenger service for upwards of 40 years, and it is the wish of all his acquaintances that he may live long to enjoy a well earned rest. His extreme modesty will not permit a photograph to accompany the sketch.
