Samuel Bond, who is seated beside Mrs. Bond in the photograph reproduced on this page, has retired from Erie service after 49 years' service, the last 41 of which he passed as a locomotive engineer.
Mr. Bond was born in Camden, NJ, May 3, 1859, and in February, 1881, he married Miss May Nichols. They were blessed with four children, three boys and one girl. One son, George, has been employed by Erie as air brake inspector at Jersey City for 28 years.
Mr. Bond entered Erie service February 11, 1879, and was promoted to engineer on February 5, 1887. Engineer Bond was assigned to local passenger service on the New York Division for several years but shortly after his retirement was assigned to service in Jersey City passenger yard.

Samuel Bond, retired New York Division engineer, and Mrs. Bond, of 130 Ogden Avenue, Jersey City, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home last month where they entertained relatives and friends. Mr. Bond, a life-long resident of Jersey City, has been an engineer for forty-three years of the fifty years he has been employed by the Erie Railroad. Mrs. Bond came from Hoboken, settling in Jersey City after her marriage.
Entertainment for the evening included songs by George Bond, impersonations by George Siegert, recitations by Arthur Scott, former Hoboken fireman, tap dancing by Harold Bond. The surprise of the evening was the exhibition of a few steps of the Rumba by the hostess and her grandson, Bert Siegert.
Supper was served. The table as well as the rooms were decorated in gold and white with many bouquets adorning the place. The couple received many pretty gifts.
The guests included Mr. and Mrs. George Siegert and son, Bert; Mr. and Mrs. C. Bond and son Charles and daughters, Lilian and Dorothy; Mr. and Mrs. George Bond and sons Charles and Edward, and daughters Dorothy, Marion and Catherine; Mr. and Mrs. H. Bond and son Harold; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Scott and daughters Helen, Marie and Patricia, of Atlantic Highlands; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Siegert, Sr.; Mrs. Serna and daughter of Hoboken.

Mrs. S. R. Bond, 82, wife of Samuel R. Bond, retired Erie engiineer, died at her home, 130 Ogden Avenue, Jersey City, last March (1936). Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, George, Charles and Harold; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Siegert; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
