From the January, 1912 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine
SUPT. W.A. BALDWIN.
Last, but by no means least, among the Erie's division superintendents, to be presented to our readers, through a biographical sketch, and accompanying cut, is Mr. W.A. Baldwin, superintendent of the Chicago and Lima divisions, or the Chicago & Erie Railroad.
Mr. Baldwin is the youngest, in point of time, in the position of division superintendent, among those holding that title. He is a man of strong and winning personality, and as full of wit, as the proverbial egg is full of meat. He is particularly fond of a good story, or anecdote, and he has a few stored away under his belt, that he likes to air when the proper occasion arises. There are three blooming bachelors on the superintendent's roster, according to the census recently taken by Superintendent Eckels, he, himself, being among them, as well as Mr. Baldwin, but even that doesn't seem to bother them.
We hear that Mr. Baldwin is quite in the social limelight in Huntington, Ind., and enjoys it immensely. The fact is, so the little booster birds say, that nothing short of promotion would drive him away from the bright and growing city, "on the banks of the Wabash far away."
W.A. Baldwin is a warm friend of our magazine. This is best proven by the following, which is quoted from a letter sent, in connection with his biographical sketch:
"I take great interest in the magazine, which I believe is helping along the spirit of cooperation, so essential to the happiness and welfare of employes, as well as the prosperity of the company, and I shall see to it that the C.& E. is suitably represented in its news contributions, and co-operate with you in any way possible, to continue its success."
Following is Mr. Baldwin's career of industry: Engineering course, Cornell University; six months as superintendent of construction company engaged in building electric traction lines. Entered Erie service in engineering corps, under chief engineer. Next entered operating department, as chainman on Susquehanna Division; worked there as trackman, rodman, assistant engineer, then trainmaster of Bradford Division, division engineer of Wyoming Division, division engineer of Susquehanna Division, trainmaster Cincinnati Division, then superintendent Chicago & Erie Division, which position he still holds.
Mr. Baldwin was born on the banks of the picturesque Chemung River at Elmira, N.Y., and says he is glad of it.
From the December, 1922 issue of Erie Magazine:
