Allen was invited to a chicken dinner given at Galion, OH by Cincinnati Division engineer John Cronenwett for those Division engineers who did not move from Galion, OH to Marion, OH when the Division headquarters were moved there beginning in 1912. From the January, 1915 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
Cincinnati Division Engineer C. Allen was credited with operating his engine for 20,516 miles without any engine failures.

From the March, 1937 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
Charles Allen, 84, oldest retired engineer on the Erie's Kent Division, died at his home in Galion Feb. 12 after a brief illness of pneumonia. He began with the Erie in the roundhouse at Kent and became an engineer in 1879, retiring in 1925. Surviving are one son, William C. Allen of Galion; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Halbert at home, Mrs. J.S. Smith of Cleveland, and Mrs. George Bradley of Marion.
