"The Evening Tribune", (Hornell, NY) March 11, 1938:
JOHN RYDER BROWN, a retired conductor of the Susquehanna Division of the Erie Railroad, died at his home, 25 Davenport Street, yesterday afternoon. He was 81 years old, and had been a resident here since 1888.

He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Brown, with whom he recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary; one daughter, Mrs. Peter C. Braack of Nutley, N.J.; one son, Lee R. Brown of Aurora, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

He was a member of Evening Star Lodge 44 F. and A.M.; of the ORC No. 225; of the IOOF, No. 251.

Funeral services will be held at Murrays Funeral Home, 95 Frank Street, Monday at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Berkley, Christian Science reader, will officiate. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
