Carried in the cage
The frightened,
Fluttering,
Yellow wing...
The nervous heart
Too scared to sing,
The chattering beak
Against the bamboo rail,
The toy eyes,
The tiny lungs that fail
Against the damp,
The quieted throat
Spent
To save the flame
Within the lamp.
