Served in the First Army, 78 Division, Royal Corps of Signals¹, in North Africa, Italy and Austria, during the 2nd World War. His Record of Service shows that 2362992 Cpl Berriman J H joined on 10 October 1939 and left on 3 May 1946. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with 1st Army bar, Italy Star, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-1945

More Gold Watches

Eight more people who have completed twenty-one years service with the Company were presented with gold watches at a dinner at the George Hotel on 24 February.

They were Mr. W. F. Driver, Duct Shop, Mr. K. T. King, Tool Room, Mr. R. A. Brown, Tool Room, Mr. R.P. Green, Service stores, Mr. R. H. Holbeche, Sales Manager, Mr. J. H. Berriman, Inspection Department, Mr. C. R. Hewes, Tool Room, Mr. H. P. Sadler, General Foreman.

A ninth recipient of a gold watch this year, Mr. R. C. Dick, now in Canada, was presented with his before he went overseas.

At the dinner were twenty-three other members of the firm, including one lady, Mrs. Avis of the Winding Shop, who had previously received long service watches. All told, the thirty-two watch recipients present have together completed 829 years service.
