Some researchers have identified Mary as Mary Taylor, who married John Head 27 August 1715 at St Mary Magdelene, this being the only marriage of a John Head and a Mary at that church between 1680 and 1720. But the baptisms of both Thomas (18 January 1712) and John Head (24 October 1714) give the parents as John Head and Mary, with no indication of illegitimacy.

Mary could also be Mary Lloyd who married John Head 12 May 1712 at Alveley, only 6 miles from Bridgnorth.
