Not much is known about Beriah. He was at Truro from 1717 to 1724 and at Provincetown in 1719, 1725 and 1736 according to the births of his children. He might have been a mariner and lost at sea, but nothing deinite has been discovered. He might have removed to Saybrook or Lyme, Connecticut, before 1740 since two of his children were in Connecticut then. More likely they came with their uncle Joseph Higgins to Saybrook or Lyme, Connecticut about 1637.spouse: >Cooke, Desire (1694 - )

SOURCES: Mayflower Index # 60086. New England Families by William Richard Cutter, Volume II, Orlando FL library, RG 974 C, book was there on 23 Feb 1993. Father was a blacksmith at Bridgewater until about 1775, when he settled at Oakham, Worcester county, MA. After the death of his father Israel, Beriah's mother moved to Barre, where he was baptized as "son of widow Hill" in 1874, in the First Church. Beriah was in use as both a man's and woman's name. He is said to have lived a time in Holyoke, MA, before 1850, was in West Springfield. He afterward went to Utica NY, and eventually settled in Fairfield VT. He was a soldier at Plattsburg in the war of 1812. I can not tell whether he died or his wife died on 16 Sep 1844.
