Mary (PRIEST) Pratt Mary Priest b. Leyden, Holland ca. 1613; living Charlestown 7 March 1686/7 (when Charlestown Town Council provided for her support); d. before 22 July 1689. She m. Plymouht ca. 1630 Phineas PRATT, b. prob. England ca. 1593; d. Charlestown 19 April 1689. Phineas was first at Weymouth, then Plymouth and then Charlestown. He arrived at Damariscore on the SPARROW May or June 1622. Phineas Pratt was one of Thomas Weston's men at Wessaguset and moved to Plymouth when that colony broke up. His narrative is consid- ered of importance in furnishing details of the early days in the colony. An article on John and Ebenezer Pratt of Oyster Bay LI NY by Rodney Macdonough identifies John Pratt of Kingstowne, RI and of Long Island as the son of Phineas and Mary (Priest) Pratt. This John Pratt is not mentioned in the will of Phineas but there is a memorandum in the Middlesex Co. probate files (1st series #17922) dated 21 July 1738 which reads "pay to the children severally if living or to their heirs if deceas'd - John and Peter are dead." He moved from Plymouth to Charlestown between 17 Sept 1646 and 20 May 1648 when he purchased a house and garden in Charlestown. On the last day of June 1674 Phineas Pratt deposed he was aged eighty one years or there abouts. The will of Phinehas Pratt of Charlestown in the county of Midellsex, Joyner dated 8 Jan 1677, sworn 15:4:80, names wife Mary Pratt; son Joseph Pratt and "all my children." His inv is dated 21:3:1680. On 28 Dec 1722 Daniel Fletcher of Dunstable petitioned as assignee of one eighth part of 300 acres in Dunstable belonging to the heirs of Phineas Pratt, which eighth he purchased of Aaron Pratt of Hingham, a son of the deceased Phinehas. On 31 Julyy 1738 the returns of the Commissioners gave the court the following heirs who were then assigned their shares: John, dec.; Peter, dec.; Samuel, Daniel and Mary. The other three having previously disposed of their shares, viz.: Mercy, Aaron and Joseph's heirs. Mayflower Families in Progress - Degory Priest Family 2 Houston Clayton Library

He m. perhaps Scituate bet. 19 Dec 1667 (will) and 2 Nov 1668 (receipt) Mary BARKER, b. Scituate ca. 1647; d. aft. 15 May 1711 (div.);dau of John and Anna (Williams) Barker of Dixbury. She m. (2) ca. 1678 Francis Coombs, her brother-in-law and cousin of her first husband; m. (3) Middleboro 5 mar 1684/5 David Wood. The will of John Williams of Scituate dated 19 Dec 1667, names graddau. Mary Barker, dau. of John Barker. On 2nd 9th mo. (Nov.) 1668 Samuel Pratt gave a receipt to his father-in-law Abraham Blush for his wife's portion of John Barker's estate. Rev Noah Newman's letter written the day after the "Pawtucket Fight" lists Samuel Pratt from Scituate as one of the 52 "English" who died in the fight. In an undated letter Mary (Barker) (Pratt) (Coombs) Wood wrote the following petition (probably 1690): "These lines may give information that Samuel Pratt's Father, my first husband, was slain by the heathen in Captain Pierce's fight. He was pressed a souldier when I sojourned at Scituate, having then noe place of my own, and have brought him up with other small children, and I shall take it very unkindly, iff he that is the only one son of this father that was slain in the former war should be compelled to go out againe, itt being contrary as I am informed to the law of England and this country, therefore I desire it may not be. So petitions Mary Woods from Middlebury." (Phineas Pratt and his descendants p. 59) The fact that Samuel Pratt of Middlebury, wheelwright, and William Thomas of Middlebourough Gentleman shared in the same distribution of the estate of Phineas Pratt 31 July 1738 proves that Samuel and Sarah (who had m. Wm. Thomas) were children of Samuel. The 15 May 1711 div. of estate of Francis Coombs mentions Mary Wood, widow. No Plymouth Colony PR or LR for Samuel Pratt. He does not appear in the published 12 vols. of Plymouth Colony Records. Mayflower Families in Progress - Degory Priest Houston Clayton Library
