WEST COLUMBIA- Mary G. Williams, 66, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at her
home in West Columbia. She was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Salters Depot, a
daughter of the late Rev. Thomas W. Williams and Mrs. Sarah Lowrimore
Williams. A graduate of Columbia College in 1950, she received her master's
degree from the University of South Carolina in 1958. Miss Williams was a
dedicated math teacher for more than 30 years before her retirement. She
taught at Wardlaw Junior High, St. Andrews Middle School, Columbia College,
the University of South Carolina and at South Carolina Educational Television.
She was a counselor and teacher at Camp Okahahwis, Rockbridge Baths, Va., for
several summers.
Her memberships included the Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa
Gamma, South Carolina Education Association, National Teachers Association and
RCEA-R. She served as historian of the Granby Chapter of Daughters of the
American Revolution. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in
West Columbia. Miss Williams was keenly interested in genealogy and had
recently completed a book filled woth family history, pictures, stories and
military records, for the Williams and Lowrimore descendants. Surviving are
three sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Simmons and Mrs. Leona Bridgers, both of
Florence, and Mrs. Blanche Floyd of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, the Rev. John
D. Williams of Greenwood and William M. Williams of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.;
and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. today in Waters-Powell Funeral Home
chapel of Florence, Conducted by Dr. J. Mark Jones of West Columbia and the
Rev. Pat Williams of Kissimmee, Fla. Interment will follow in the family
plot at Mount Hope Cemetary in Florence. The family will receive
friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the
home of Mrs. Leona Bridgers, 1004 Cheraw Drive, Florence.
A memorial service will be at Trinity United Metodist Church,
1132 Gunter Circle, in West Columbia, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7, conducted
by Dr. J. Mark Jones and the Rev. Ralph Lowrimore.
