David Strean/Strain was born c. 1720 and died in 1783 in Hanover, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  He married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). He is believed to have been the son of John Strayn (d. 1752 Lancaster County)* and brother of Gilbert Strayhorn of Orange County, NC.  His children included Infant (name unknown) Strain, James Strain, John Strain, William Strain, Janet Strain, Alexander Strain, and David Strain.  Upon his death, sons John and Alexander moved to Orange County, NC to live near their uncle Gilbert Strayhorn.  John died 28 January 1826 and Alexander died 27 February 1831, both in North Carolina.  Janet died 13 September 1828 in Lancaster County, PA.

Sample # 36864 was contributed by David Strain’s great, great, great, great grandson (six transmission events)

*Note:  There is some confusion surrounding the sons of John Strayn.  According to some sources son David moved to North Carolina along with his brother Gilbert upon their father’s death.  This David Strain is believed to have been the father of Andrew Strain by Andrew’s descendants.  However, a history of Orange County written by a Presbyterian minister of that era states fairly conclusively that the David who died in 1783 in Pennsylvania was the brother of Gilbert Strayhorn.
