Jacob Strain (1861-1943) was born in the Tirygory parish of Drumballyroney, County Down, Northern Ireland. He married Mary Ann Duke (1874-1955) of Kilcoo, and together they raised 9 of their 14 children in the nearby parish of Annachinchago. All of his children remained in Northern Ireland with the exception of two sons who immigrated to the US and another to Canada in the 1920's. Most of Jacob's descendants and relatives still live in County Down, Northern Ireland.

Jacob and his wife Mary Ann are buried in unmarked graves in the Ballyroney Presbyterian churchyard along with at least 35 others with the Strain surname. A few of the older STRAIN surnames listed in the church cemetery records are also shown in GRIFFITHS VALUATION-COUNTY DOWN 1863-1864 which would indicate that the family has lived in this general area for a long time

Sample 51065 was contributed by a grandson of Jacob and Mary Ann Strain.  (Two transmission events).
