John
H. Strain married Mary Watts
in 1816 in Highland County, Ohio. One of their several children was Henry A.
(Allen?) Strain, who married five times in Kosciusko and Whitley Counties,
Indiana. The participant descends from
Henry’s second marriage to Julia Newton.
A matter of contention has been the birthplaces of John and Mary. Census
documents for years 1850 - 1890 indicate Virginia (or Ohio after
statehood) and Maryland. Other researchers insist that John was born in South
Carolina.
