The eminent genealogist, John Insley Coddington, well known for his countless contributions to The American Genealogist, published an article in that journal on this family entitled, “An Unconnected Coddington Family” (32:84).

Please see Gysberts below.

Gysberts

NY

The parentage of Elisabeth Gysberts, wife of Jan/John2 Gerrits/‌Gerritsen [Garrison] (son of Gerrit1 Jansen van Oldenburg and Clara Matthys) is unknown. However, by a process of eliminating other potential candidates, Phyllis Miller and I independently arrived at the same point of speculation — was Elisabeth the otherwise unknown fourth “Child, living in 1659 but not identified” of Gÿsbert1 Teunissen and his first wife Aeltje Wouters? Obviously, Elisabeth’s patronymic was Gysberts and she named her eldest known daughter Aeltie. If this identification is correct, Elisabeth was probably born before 1649 when Gÿsbert1 and Aeltje arrived in the colony; otherwise, we would expect to find her baptism in the New Amsterdam church. Cornelis3 Garretson, son of Jan2 and Elisabeth, has no obvious ancestral predecessor — was he named in honor of Cornelis1 Comegys, the husband of (his maternal aunt?) Willempte2 Gÿsberts?

Huggett

England

Sussex

Was Anne (‍–‍?‍–‍) Streeter — wife of WilliamA  Streeter (ca. 1713–1787) of Dunnings Farm, East Grinstead, Sussex — identical with Anne Huggett, daughter of Abraham and Ann (Gummins) Huggett, christened at East Grinstead 10 April 1724?

No likely match for Anne Huggett has been found in marriage or death records of Sussex, Surrey and nearby parishes in Kent. Abraham Huggett, son of Abraham and Ann (Gummins) Huggett, shared a property with WilliamA Streeter from 1780 to 1785. In 1771 and 1773, an Elizabeth Huggett witnessed the births of two of the Streeters’ grandchildren.

Potter

RI

(How) did Mariam Potterb. RI 1789; d. Town of Torrey, Yates Co., NY 12 August 1839; wife of George V.7 Hazard (Jonathan J.6-5, Jonathan4, Thomas3, Robert2, Thomas1), b. RI 1787, d. Dresden, Town of Torrey, Yates Co., NY 18 Sep 1854 — descend from Nathaniel1 and Dorothy (‍–‍?‍–‍) Potter of Rhode  Island?

“George V. Hazard married Mariam, daughter of John Potter of Rhode Island. She was a relative of Judge William Potter’s family…” (Cleveland, History of Yates County, 682–683).

Judge William5 Potter (John4-3, Ichabod2, Nathaniel1) was the son of John4 and Mercy (Robinson) Potter.

Did Hannah Reed — wife of Capt. Ephraim3 Mariner (William2, Josué1), b. Colchester, New London, CT 1735; d. Sharon, Litchfield Co., CT 1810 — descend from John1 Reed of Norwalk, Fairfield Co., CT?

From “Reed‌–Niles–Capin Family Histories” (Newell A. Williams, [November 1980]), Elias3 Reed (Thomas2, John1) went from Norwalk, Fairfield Co., CT to Salisbury, Litchfield Co., CT in 1738 as a Proprietor; his brother John3 Reed soon followed. “John (3) and Elias (3) of Salisbury were the ancestors of that numerous portion of the family who made their homes in that town and in Canaan, Cornwall and Sharon.”

Richey

NY

NYC+

Who were the parents of John1 Richey “the Elder,” d. (then Mansfield Township, Sussex Co., now) Franklin Township, Warren Co., NJ in 1776?

“The Richey’s [sic] came to New York from the North of Ireland about 1738, some of them settled in New York City and went into the Hotel business, the rest came to Asbury…”

Smith

NJ

Hunterdon

Was Robert Smith — b. circa 1762 or earlier; d. Bethlehem Township, between 8 February 1812 and 27 November 1813 — a descendant of John1 Smith of Bedford, Long Island or some other immigrant?

In alphabetical order, Robert's sons bore the given names of Asher, David, John, Joseph, Robert, and William; Asher is certainly the most distinctive name among these so it is speculated that Robert may have been a kinsman of some degree to Asher5 Smith (Jasper4, John3, Jasper2, John1).

Stevens

MA

ME

Suffolk

Who were the immigrant ancestors of Thomas and Ester/Esther (‍–‍?‍–‍) Stevens of Boston? They were the parents of the Thomas Stevens who married Sarah Place in Boston in 1696 and research indicates that the elder Thomas Stevens and Erasmus Stevens of Boston were brothers or other kinsmen who may have originated in Maine.

A free Y-DNA test may be available to known (or highly probable) descendant of Thomas Stevens who is willing to join the Stephens-Stevens Y-DNA Testing Project to confirm or refute this speculation.

Streeter

England

Surrey

Sussex

Where RichardB and Elizabeth (‍–‍?‍–‍) Streeter of Dunnings Farm, East Grinstead, England resided prior to their arrival in the parish is unknown. Were they identical with the Richard “Streator” and Elizabeth Humphrey who were married at Charlwood, Surrey on 10 October 1708? They had seven children christened at Charlwood between 1710 and 1724: John, Elizabeth, William, Ann, Sarah, Richard, and Thomas. With the exception of William Streeter (baptized 5 March 1714/15 as the “son of Richard Streeter”), all of their sons died in infancy.

If WilliamA Streeter of Dunnings Farm was the son of Richard and Elizabeth (Humphrey) Streeter christened at Charlwood, then, aside from naming his eldest son after himself, he named his sons following the birth order of his deceased brothers. No other match for WilliamA Streeter of Dunnings Farm has been found in all of Sussex, Surrey and nearby parishes in Kent.
