- Schuler, Alice, Falk, Higgins, Agee Register, 1984. "My Father (George W. Falk), Born in North Dakota Jan. 19, 1895. Died in Tucson Az. He worked with his father in carpentering, carried mail by horse and buggy, married and homsteaded then worked in drug store. He went to work on the Railroad for 45 yrs. for the Great Northern, Red Electric, Spokane, Portland and Seattle, and Retired from Southern Pacific in Az. He loved to build, garden and loved his family. He loved to travel in his big Chrysler. He had never owned a car until he retired. He also loved his little dogs. He died of a massive coronary in his back yard painting a reflector on a light. Dad was very loving, he always worked hard and loved to be praised for whatever he did. He helped build the Christian Church in Globe, Arizona. Took care of his Mother and Mother-in-law until they died. Visited his family when possible. Loved to play cards and checkers also Gambled and played cards on Caboose and other end of the line (his runs to Gila Bend, Lordsburg, El Paso or Yuma). He was a Brakeman then Conductor liked to work Passenger trains as he loved people. He took us kids on picnics and long walks and taught the boys about guns. We rode the caboose with him many times. He also took his grandchildren on the Caboose. The thing he did that annoyed Mother most was go lay down a half hour before dinner and go to sleep or pretend to sleep till us kids would go drag him to the table. He was a good carpenter and made lots of our toys. He had lots of nosebleeds and the flu but not sick much. He smoked cigars and chewed snuff he didn't like drinking. He told big stories to make us all laught and swearing was his normal language. He remarried to Sarah Blevins Stewart in 1963. She passed away in 1970. My Mother (Elsie L. Higgins Falk) My mother was truly a housewife she had 7 children, she gardened, canned, sewed for all, made her soap, baked bread and doughnuts and as dad was gone so much had all the raising of children. She loved to sew and made all our clothes did a lot of hand sewing. She made all of her children cutwork tablecloths. She had lots of white Passenger shirts to iron also. She had been a beautiful young girl but in middle age she had a very tough battle with crippling arthritis, migraine headaches, kidney troubles, gall bladder removal, bladder and later diabetes. She died with a blood clot above her heart after Bladder surgery. She kept going with all her problems and learned to drive at 60. She kept her mother and mother-in-law for 20 yrs. She was very proud of her family, Jim her special 'one'. When she felt good she loved to have the Grandchildren visit. Took several on trips with her. Mother always had to diet. Dad took her to Hot Springs Ark. lots but it didn't help. He always bought her things. He had been to Mexico and gotten her a Golden thread bedspread and table cloth ready to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. It was not to be. She loved her Bible and like her Father loved to sing the old church hymns. She loved to sit and rock a child and sing for hours. ... My Step Mother Sarah B. Stewart Falk. She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia. Worked for F.W. Woolworth for 18 years before retiring. She is buried in family plot in South Lawn Memorial Park in Tucson Az. She was a good step mother for seven years. She was very good to Dad. They traveled after she retired to see all of the family in Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., Wisconsin and Oregon. After my father's death she moved back to take care of her elderly Aunt Sarah until her passing. That winter Sarah contracted the flu and had complications she never recovered from. She was a faithful member of the Nazarene Church in Tucson."

- 13 Oct. 1916, "G.A. FALK'S NURSERY A PROMISING INDUSTRY. Thousands of Shade Trees, Shrubbery and Plants of All Kinds Grown For Sale. STRAWBERRIES YIELD ABUNDANTLY - OVER 1800 QUARTS WERE TAKEN FROM SMALL PATCH THIS YEAR. One of Glen Ullin's industries which is rapidly coming to the front is the Curlew Park Nursery, owned and operated by G.A. Falk of this city. Mr. Falk bought a five acre tract of land in the northwest part of the city in 1893 and erected a residence and other buildings thereon. For a number of years he worked at his trade of carpenter and during spare time planted trees and shrubbery, raspberry bushes, strawberry plants, etc., until up to about five or six years ago when his nursery had grown to such proportions that he was compelled to quit his other work and since that time he has given his entire attention to the growing of nursery stock. He now has growing something over 10,000 trees in the different varieties, poplar, cottonwood, ash, elm and box elder; 100,000 strawberry plants, raspberry bushes and all kinds of shrubbery. During the past season all fruits raised here yielded abundantly and from his strawberry patch consisting of about one acre, Mr. Falk sold upwards of 1100 quarts of berries in boxes, about 700 quarts in pails and he says that he lost about one third of the crop on account of excessive heat during the picking season and on account of scarcity of help. This does not include the large amount of raspberries, gooseberries, currents, etc. disposed of. The place is located on the banks of Curlew Park Lake, and in addition to being a very paying proposition to the owner, it is a credit to Glen Ullin and the state and is a real beauty spot. The lake has been stocked with game fish, 100,000 pike and the ssame number of perch were placed in the water last year by the government thru the efforts of Mr. Falk and it will be but a short time until the finest of angling will be had. The lake averages about 20 feet deep and is about three miles long. Boating is also fine." [North Dakota, Glen Ullin, Glen Ullin News]

He married and had a son and before the next was born friends had encouraged him to come to Milwaukee, Wi. in America as there was lots of work. He left and his wife followed in about seven months with two sons. After a couple of years moved on to North Dakota. He bought land in Glen Ullin N.D. and started to build his home in Curlew Park at the edge of the Lake. He Contracted and built in the area. He put in a very large strawberry patch and Nursery also stocked the Lake with Fish. Later he was appointed Post Master of Glen Ullin his sons worked as mail men in horse and buggy in a 50 mile radius of post office. That is how my father met my mother. After his term was up he went back to Germany but did not choose to stay. Then he followed his family to Portland, Oregon. He bought a home in Southeast part of city and extra lots across the street for an orchard and garden. He had prune plums, cherries, and apples. He was a small man 5 ft. had white hair, mustache and goatee. He always wore striped bib overalls with a flat brimmed straw hat. He made his Home Brew and blood sausage. We loved to watch him eat with only fork and Knife. Always had his wood delivered in 4 ft. slab cords then sawed and cut as was needed. During the depression we lived next door to them and on Saturday night we would go to his house for our bath then all would gather at his feet to listen to the Gilmore Oil Co. "Red Lion Circus" on the radio. He lived there until his death in 1939. My Grandmother (Helena Hermenia Fredrickia Hansen Falk) Born in Germany was orphaned and raised by a family in Holland. She was a second cousin to Queen Whelmina of the Netherlands. She married Heinrich Gustav Adolph Falk they had one son and she was pregnant when he left for America. She followed him in about 7 mo. with two sons. They landed in Baltimore in 1891. Later when they moved to N.D. she worked as a nurse and midwife besides being a housewife and mother of eight children. She had a lifetime certificate issued by State of N.D. When she moved to Oregon she had a Rooming and boarding House. When my family moved to Arizona she came to live with us. She loved to crochet made many afghans and bedspreads, until her fingers stiffened from Arthritis. She also went deaf and tried wearing a hearing aid. She was active in ladies aid at the First Christian Church. Later she also went Blind. She lived to be 97 yrs. passing in Tucson Az."
