Anderson, Robert Charles, The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-1633, 1995. In 3:1776, "Stoughton ... Two sisters of Thomas and Israel also apparently came to New England. Judith, who married first Henry Denman and second --- Smead became a resident of Dorchester ... the baptism at Burstead Magna, Essex, on 3 July 1599 of "Judith Throughtone ... the daughter of Thomas preacher of the word of God"; in other records we find that the minister at Burstead Magna was assisted from 1594 until 1600 by 'Thomas Stawghton,' these being the 'lost' years between his ministry at Naughton, Suffolk, and at Great Coggeshall, Essex ..."

On p. xciv, "When Thomas Stoughton announced the likelihood of his appointment to a living in his native Kent, the conference gave him its blessing and continued to be supportive in what proved to be an abortive negotiation. Stoughton was then presented (by the godly Ipswich merchant John More) to the living of Naughton, only eight miles to the north of East Bergholt where he had been living with Crick, and the conference no doubt congratulated itself on another problem solved. But Stoughton got off on the wrong foot with his parishioners, and soon Crick was suggesting to the conference that it might be best for him to move on. As usual, the conference was not happy about this and in this case Stoughton seems to have listened to their advice, remaining at Naughton in spite of continuing difficulties."
Turner, Ethel McLaughlin, The English Ancestry of Thomas Stoughton, 1588-1661, and His Son Thomas Stoughton, 1624-1684, or Windsor, Conn., 1958. On p. 65-73, "he did not matriculate at Cambridge (from Trinity) until 1573. He received his B.A. degree from Queens College in 1577, was made a Fellow of the College in 1579, and became Master of Arts in 1580, 'in the Bishop's Chapel within his Manor of Bugden.' He was ordained deacon and priest at Lincoln February 13, 1581-82. In July 1586 he was installed Rector at Naughton near Ipswich in Suffolk and remained there until July 1594 ... Thomas Stoughton was deprived of the living of Naughton, date not given, and that Edward or Edmund Stubbin was presented as his successor July 29, 1594 ... From this time until he was presented by Lord Rich to the living of Coggeshall in Essex on Dec. 12, 1600, we have no record ... He was deprived of the living of Coggeshall and his successor, Ralph Cudworth, was admitted on the presentation of Lord Rich, April 6, 1606 ... Treatise written 'From my poore lodging in the poore Hospital called St. Bartholomewes by Sandwich in Kent, August 20, 1622'."
