He was born 9 Jan. 1794 in Augusta Co., Virginia, and lived in Pennsylvania with his parents, Sebastian and Catherine/Katherine (Cook or Koch) Wolph ... purchased 160 acres in Bloominggrove Twp. ... enlisted in the War of 1812 before leaving Pennsylvania, but the conflict was over before he was mustered in ... married on 2 Apr. 1817 in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio to Maria ... daughter of Heinrich Gramm and Cristiana Kendig ... active in the Methodist Episcopal Church ... ten children ... After their children were grown, John and Mary went to Nebraska for a visit. John died at the home of his son ... and was buried in Nebraska City. Mary then stayed with her children in Nebraska".

On p. 301: "Maria Gram (Mary) married John Wolph in 1817 and moved to Blooming Grove Township, Richland County, to the 160 acres of land which had been purchased for $2.00 per acre ... ten children ...
