- 17 Dec. 1920, "By the death of Mr. Andrew Dickson, there has passed away a much-respected villager, and an interesting link with the past has been broken. He was the last of a line of market gardeners in Ormiston, descended from Charles Bell, to whom John Cockburn, the agriculturalist, well nigh two centuries ago, wrote the series of letters published by the Scottish History Society in 1904 ..." - 25 Dec. 1814, "Ormiston Kirk 25 Decemr 1814 ... The Minister stated to the Session that he had received a letter from the Minister of Inveresk informing him that Margaret Knight lately servant at Westbyres in this parish had been delivered of a child at Fisherrow; of which Charles Dickson in this parish was said to be the father. Thinking that this business ought now to be proceeded in without delay, he had caused the said Charles Dickson to be summoned the third time to appear before the session to meet here this day. The officer being asked if he had done so, declared that he had, and being desired to call him in, he did not find him. Whereupon the session taking into consideration that he had now been summoned three different times in due form, but still persisted in refusing to attend, and that he had all along treated the authority of this court with contempt, did, and hereby do declare him contumacious, and appoint this sentence to be intimated from the pulpit." Property to be disposed includes 20 Falls 7 ells and house built by Hugh Dickson, on north side of High Street, Ormiston, leigh house on northeast corner of Halkerstons Wynd, Edinburgh, a half tenement in east part of Tranent recorded 25 Mar. 1841, and a £300 bond from Musselburgh, dated 19 June 1837, in favor of Charles Dickson, Margaret Agnew, son George, daughter Catherine, and any unborn children.
