- 6 Feb. 1936, "Uncle Phil McGovern Died Tuesday Evening. P.M. McGovern, 84, affectionately known to many friends as 'Uncle Phil' died at his home on Hartselle Route 1 Tuesday following a five weeks illness of pneumonia. Mr. McGovern was a native of Pennsylvania, but had made his home in Morgan county for many years and was one of the most beloved citizens of the county. He was a devout member of the Methodist church and a faithful worker in the Knights of Pythias lodge. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. J.E. Parker, of Decatur Route 2; four nieces; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Moss' Chapel by Rev. R.S. Rains and Rev. D.W. Burson and interment was made in the Moss' chapel cemetery with Peck directing. The following members of the Hartselle Knights of Pythias lodge acted as pallbearers: F.M.
