10.  Elias SHUFFLEBARGER Jr; born 1801 in Montgomery County, VA; [1] married Nancy Carper, daughter of John Carper Sr. and Eve ?, December 4, 1824 in Montgomery County, VA;[2] died of typhoid fever July 29, 1876 in Pulaski Co., VA.[3]

     He lived between 1830 and 1870 in Newbern, Pulaski, VA.[4],[5],[6],[7],[8] He was a farmer in 1850 in Pulaski, VA.[9] He was a carpenter in 1870 in Newbern, Pulaski, VA.[10]

 

     Nancy CARPER[11] was born in 1806 in Pulaski Co., VA.[12] She lived in 1870 in Dublin, Pulaski, VA. [13] She died of "plurisy" on April 5, 1876 in Pulaski Co., VA.[14]

     Children of Elias Shufflebarger Jr. and Nancy Carper were as follows:

            42.          i.     David; born March 30, 1825; married Elizabeth Jane Dudley January 14, 1848 in Pulaski Co., VA; died February 4, 1910 in Tazewell Co., VA, at age 84. [15]

            43.          ii.     John; born 1826;[16] married Martha Ann Noel March 3, 1851 in Pulaski Co., VA;[17] died before 1912.[18]

     He lived in 1850 with his father Elias Shufflebarger, Jr, in Pulaski, VA.[19]

He began military service on July 20, 1861 in Wytheville, VA, Civil War Veteran.  Enlisted in 51st VA INF, Co. C.

Co. C. Enlisted 7/20/61 at Wytheville as Private. Died before 1912.[20]

            44.        iii.     Mary Jane; born 1827; married Hugh Deatherage Dudley February, 1850 in Montgomery Co., VA; died July 3, 1864. [21]

            45.         iv.     Sarah; born 1829 in Pulaski Co., VA;[22], married Richard Runyon November 23, 1854 in Pulaski Co., VA; died circa 1860. [23]

            46.         v.     Cynthia; born October 21, 1830;[24],[25] married Robert Achilles Dudley February 6, 1851 in Pulaski, VA;[26] died June 10, 1897 at age 66.[27]

            47.         vi.     ArmentAAmanda”; born 1832 in Pulaski, VA;[28] married William S. Mathews February 4, 1859 in Pulaski Co., VA. [29]

            48.       vii.     Nancy Elizabeth; born after 1834;[30] married Samuel Brookman circa 1860; married Boston M. Robertson November 26, 1868 in Pulaski Co., VA. [31]

            49.       viii.     James T.;[32] born 1836 in Pulaski, VA;[33],[34] died of fever (marriage status listed as single) on September 23, 1862 in Pulaski, VA.[35]

     He began military service on April 17, 1861, a Civil War Soldier. Enlisted 4th VA INF, Co. C, the Stonewall Brigade.  Age 25, carpenter. [36] He ended military service on August 4, 1861, discharged for disability.[37]

            50.         ix.     Margaret;[38] born 1838;[39] married William A. Cooper January 16, 1866 in Pulaski Co., VA.[40],[41]

+          51.         x.     Eva Clarissa, born April 29, 1840 in Pulaski Co., VA; married William M. King.

            52.         xi.     William C. Jackson; born May 19, 1842 in Pulaski Co., VA;[42],[43] married Sarah E. Mathews July 12, 1866 in Pulaski Co., VA;[44],[45] married Victoria Tynes May 11, 1881 in Pulaski Co., VA; married Margaret Havens October 29, 1884 in Pulaski Co., VA. [46]

     He lived in 1861 in Pulaski, VA.[47]

     He began military service on June 23, 1861 in Wytheville, Wythe, VA.  A Civil War Soldier, he enlisted 50th VA INF, Co. I, for 12 months as Private.

     Company Muster Roll:  June 23 to October 30,1861-absent; sick at home in Pulaski County, VA

     Regimental Return:  July 1861-taken sick on march from Wytheville to Sweet Springs.

     Register of sick and wounded Confederates in the hospitals in and about Gettysburg, PA after the battle of July 1-3, 1863-Gunshot to groin.

     Roll of Prisoners of War-Captured at Gettysburg and listed as died July 17, 1863 but later found on POW lists.

     List of Rebel sick and wounded received at DeCamp General Hospital, David's Island, New York Harbor-July 17, 19, 22, 23, 24/1863

     Roll of Prisoners of War-Captured July 5, 1863 at Gettysburg.

     Received for exchange, City Point on Sep. 8, 1863.

     Register of payments-Service December 31, 1863 to

June 9, 1864; Paid September 1, 1864 by J. H. Lacy in the amount of $57. 93.

     Receipt Roll for Clothing-November 5, 1864, November 9, 1864 and December 11, 1864.[48]

            55.      xiv.     Henrietta; born February 17, 1849 in Pulaski Co., VA;[52] married Chester Ballard King, son of Joseph King and Elizabeth Mullin, May 12, 1864 in Pulaski Co., VA.[53]

            56.        xv.     Margaret; born 1852 in Pulaski Co., VA;[54] married George Pares Anderson June 15, 1870 in Pulaski Co., VA (Minister-B. W. S. Bishop).[55]
