Generation Five

 

 

25.  Newton SHUFFLEBARGER; born May 2, 1827 in VA;[1] married Ann Wygal July 28, 1853 in Pulaski Co., VA;[2] died May 27, 1919 in Bland Co., VA, at age 92.[3]

     He was a laborer. living with his father Jacob Shufflebarger in 1850 in Pulaski Co., VA.[4] He was a farmer between 1853 and 1857 in Pulaski Co., VA.[5] He was probably a farmer as indicated by his $1500 in real estate and $185 in personal property in 1860 in Tazewell Co., VA.[6]

     He began military service on February 15, 1863 in Pulaski Co., VA, Civil War Veteran.  Enlisted 30th Battalion VA Sharpshooters, Co. E in Pulaski Co. VA as a Private.

     Muster Rolls: July and August 1863-Present (last paid to June 30, 1863); May and June 1863-Present; November and December, 1863-Absent sick at Emory and Henry Hospital.

     Prisoner of War at Harper's Ferry, WVA; Captured by Gen. Sheridan's forces at Winchester on September 19, 1864 and sent to Point Lookout, MD on September 23, 1864.  Arrived at Harper's Ferry on September 26, 1864 and exchanged on March 15, 1865.[7]

     Ann WYGAL[8] was born in 1831 in VA.[9] She died on June 25, 1876 in Bland Co., VA.[10]

     Children of Newton Shufflebarger and Ann Wygal all born in Pulaski Co., VA, were as follows:

          100.          i.     John H.;[11] born July, 1854.[12]

          101.          ii.     Andrew J.;[13] born April 12, 1856.[14]

          102.        iii.     Robinson;[15] born December 1, 1857.[16]

 

 

33.  Taylor SHUFFLEBARGER; born November 27, 1848 in Pulaski Co., VA; [17],[18] married Cosby Woolwine December 6, 1877 in Pulaski Co., VA;[19] died May 11, 1930 in prob. Pulaski Co., VA, at age 81, and buried in Newbern Community Cemetery in Pulaski Co., VA.[20]

     He was a farmer in 1877 in Pulaski Co., VA.[21]

 

     Cosby WOOLWINE[22] was born on September 8, 1845 in Pulaski Co., VA. She died on December 21, 1907 at age 62, and buried in the Newbern Community Cemetery in Pulaski Co. VA.[23]

     Children of Taylor Shufflebarger and Cosby Woolwine were:

          103.          i.     Kitty; born September 11, 1882 in Pulaski Co., VA. [24]

 

 

51.  Eva Clarissa SHUFFLEBARGER;[25] born April 29, 1840 in Pulaski Co., VA;[26] married William M. King, son of Joseph King and Elizabeth Mullin, circa 1865; died 1915 in At the family home on Peak Creek in Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA; buried after 1915 in Thornsprings Cemetery.[27]

          William M. KING was also known as William "Billy" King. He was born on May 22, 1839 in Pulaski Co., VA. [28] He died of an apparent heart attack in 1915 in Belsprings.[29] He was buried in 1915 in Thornsprings Cemetery, Pulaski Co., VA.[30]

57.  Paris SHUFFLEBARGER; born October 29, 1826 in Montgomery Co., VA;[31],[32] married Magdaline Taylor December 1, 1862 in Montgomery Co., VA;[33] died August 22, 1895 at age 68. [34]

     He was a farmer in 1850.[35] He lived with father, David Shufflebarger between 1850 and 1860 in Montgomery Co., VA.[36],[37] He was a laborer in 1860.[38] He was a farmer in 1865 in Montgomery Co., VA.[39]

 

     Magdaline TAYLOR[40] was born on March 6, 1833.[41],[42] She died on November 18, 1895 at age 62.[43],[44]

     Children of Paris Shufflebarger and Magdaline Taylor were as follows:

          107.          i.     Laura; born September 17, 1863. [45]

          108.          ii.     Charles Henry; born July 10, 1865 in Montgomery Co., VA; married Lura V. Brown October 20, 1888; died June 20, 1941 at age 75.[46]

          109.        iii.     John David;[47] born November 17, 1866 in near Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., VA; married Mary Lennie Ryan July 24, 1893; died April 20, 1948 at age 81.[48]

          110.         iv.     Lucy Figgatt; born February 4, 1870.[49]
