ZIMRI TATE, b. ca 1744, St. Paul's Parish, Louis Co., VA. On 08 May 1789 Wm. Tate of Louisa Co., to my son Zimri Tate 150 Acres adj,
my bros. James Tate and Wm. Hughes. He was ex. of his father Wm. Tate's will in 1780: the will was lost and he was appointed adm. He was a patriot, served with Washington's Army at Valley Forge. md Ca 1768 Martha Mayfield b. ca. 1749 VA dtr of Abraham and Ann Mayfield of St. Thomas Parish Orange Co., VA. Abraham Mayfield settled in Warren Co., N.C. where he md. 2nd w. Polly, ch: Mary Jackson, Catherine Dye, Thomas, John and Edmund Mayfield. ex. sons, wit. James Ellis and John Mason. Katey Mayfield md 11 July 1783 Martin Dye, Jane Mayfield md 15 Aug. 1788 Peter Daneil. On July 1783 Zimri Tate's Brother James Tate gave his three eldest sons a legacy viz: Mayfiield, Thomas and Zimri Tate. On 10 Aug. 1791 Zimri and w. Martha Tate sold 215 acres on So. Side of Nouthern River and 233 acres adj. Enos and Agnes Tate land. The following year they were residents of Elbert Co., (1792) GA. His will 02 Oct. 1792 Elbert Co., GA prob. 27 Nov. 1801 wife Martha., ch: Thomas Tate, Nancy McGehee, Virginia currency and to each of my children as they come of age, ex. w. Martha, son Thomas and bro. James Tate wit. A Colson, William H. Tate and Richard McGehee. It is obvious he did not name all of his children, his bro. James died 1798 and it is not known why Thomas Tate, his son, did not qualify as ex., however on 12 May 1800 Isaac Morris, vs. Zimri Tate son and adm. with will annexed of Zimri Tate dec'd and representative of said decedent viz: Thoams Tate, Samuel McGehee and w. Ann, Eliza., Enos, Martha and James Tate infants of tender years. Commonwealth of VA. 18 Nov 1801 James Banks and David Hudson gentlemen justices of Elbert CO., GA whereas: Martha, Zimri, Thomas and Enos Tate, Samuel McGehee, Archibald Riddle and w. Elizabeth, James Hatcher and w. Martha, by their deed to Isaac Morris signed their right of dower as heirs of Zimri Tate dec'd. It is interesting to note that James Tate is not mentoned in the last document and Elizabeth and Martha Tate both married between 12 May 1800 and 18 Nov 1801 though the records do not reveal their nupitals. This branch of the family retained the spelling "TAIT". he was a patriot, served in VA lines. in letters dated 2 Aug 1774, Feb. 1776, 6 May 1776 and 5 Oct. 1776 James Tate to Edmond Pendleton, Committee of Safety, President of the Convention at Williamsburg VA. regarding the development of salt in Va for the colony. The family arrived in Petersburg Elbert Co., Ga Christmas day 1783. He was justice of inferior Court Elbert Co., GA 15 Dec 1790 to 12 Oct 1791. He died 1 June 1798 age 52 yrs. buried Petersburg, Elbert Co., GA. md 1766 Louisa Co., VA Rebecca Hudson, chr 12 mar. 1742 by Rev. William Douglas, died 30 Sep 1816 age 74 yrs, dtr of Charles and Susan (Patrick) Hudson of Prince Co., VA. Charles was son of John and Elizabeth (Harris) Hudson, the latter and Englishman of Berkshire England, who settled near Pages Ware House in Hanover Co., VA and neighbors of the early Tate Family. On 17 Nov. 1783 James Tate and wife Rebecca sold --- acres he had of Francis Hester. Walter Goldsmith and Wm. Huges to Wm. Mansfield in Trinity Parish, Louisa Co., VA adj. Bart Dandridge, John Hester, Wm., Zimri, Enos, James Tate, Benjamin Hollis and William Cole. wit. Henry Bibb, William Tate, Garet Minor, William Cole and Zimri Tate. His will 30 Jan 1798 Elbert Co., GA prob. 25 July 1795 w. Rebecca, eldest son Charles Tate, Wm. Hudson Tate, Nancy Colson, Barbara Oliver and children: Patshy, Louisa, America, Charity, and James Minor Tate as they come of age or marry. gr, son Hudson Tate Ware, ex. Charles Tate and Wm. James Tait/Rebecca 1796 (Elbert Co., GA ) is said Franklin Co., Ga having (?) of 800 acres tract not hertofor convey, grantee to Thomas Carter in had (?) of Beaverdam. WILLIAM TATE, b. ca. 1748 Trinity Parish, Louisa Co., VA, a patriot, died Elbert Co., GA testate, Apr 1814 md Louisa Co., Va Elisheba Hudson, b. ca. 1752 VA. sis. of Rebecca Hudson. Reb. William Douglas christened two of their children. They migrated to Elbert Co., Ga., prob. with is brother James Tate family at Christmas time 1783. On 14 Sep 1780 William Tate of Louisa Co., VA nd w. Elisheba, (some times spelled Elizabeth) and Zimri Tate, ex. of William Tate Sr. dec'd and w. Martha sold to Benjamin Nelson 385 acres in Louisa Co., VA adj. Richard Matthews, On Pamunky Riber and Christopher's Run. sig. William, Zimri and Eliz. Tate. (Estate of their father William Tate Sr.) His will 30 March 1814 Elbert Co., GA prob. 2 May 1814 w. Elisheba, Ch: John Tate 100 acres including the plantaion wheron he now lives, William Tate 100 acres adj. the land he purchased of R. L. Tate, James Tate 100 acres including the place where he formerly lived, David, Daniel and Enos Tate the other 400 acres. Enos to have the home place, Lucy Betsy and Susanna Tate. ENOS TATE, b ca. 1748 Trinity Parish, Louisa Co., VA. He served in the revolution and received two draws in the lottery for land in Elbert Co., in Capt. Tuckers Dist. He md. in Louisa Co., VA 9 Sep 1772 Elizabeth Tate, b. ca. 1750 with consent of her father James Tate, sur. brother Uriah Tate. They were first cousins. On 17 Oct 1776 her father, by his will, devised land to s.i.l. Enos Tate if issue by Eliza Tate, if not, legacy to his bro. Robert Tate's son Robert Tate. Enos Tate was one of the ex. to this complicated will. Consequently, it was interesting to see the settlement of his own estate. Enos Tate s.p. will 12 June 1830 Elbert Co., GA prob. 3 Sep 1832 all estate to w. Elizabeth Tate, at her demise to:
Enos Tate Jr. my nephew, My wife's nieces Nancy Tate w. of Enos C. Tate, To nieces Lewcy Andrew and Elizabeth Upshaw., To Agnes Ann Harris, dtr of Rachel Harris dec'd and children of William Nelson dec'd. To Luther Henry Martin, son of Jane Johnston, plantation whereon I live. To Enos Tate, son of James Tate ESQ, slave Juda now in possesson of his father.
