History of The Pittsburg Battery 'F' - USA
The Pittsburg Battery 'F' was organized in October 1861 as a part of the Pennsylvania Light Artillery under the Command of Captain Robert B. Hampton. The unit was assigned to the Army of the Potomac under the command of Major General Banks. The battery was also assigned to Twelfth Corps under the command of General Slocum After taking heavy losses the battery was combined with Thompson's Battery 'C'.


The Pittsburg Battery 'F' was also known by the following names:

• Hampton's Battery 'F', so named for Capt. Robert P. Hampton,
  Killed at Chancellorsville, Va. on May 3, 1863

(most common name used as the founding commander was Captain Robert P. Hampton)


• Thompson's Battery C & F
  (During the war the battery suffered severe losses
  and were combined with Thompson's Battery 'C' to form a single battery)



• Pennsylvania Light Independant Batteries C and F
  (also known as Battery C & F)



• Pennsylvania Light Independant Battery
  (also known as Hampton's Battery 'F')
