The Oddo Family


Rose Oddo was born in Sicily around 1860. The 1910 Federal Census Table for Braddock Borough, Allegheny County, PA shows Rose living on Eighth Street. Rose listed her martial status as widow. She reported having had six children, five of whom were currently living. Three were living in the house. Frank was the head of household. Peter and Vincent lived in the home also. Rose had two daughters, Eva and Nifa. Nifa Oddo Lapaglia's daughter was Mary Lapaglia Affatigato, grandmother of Paul Cercone.

Peter married Sarah Tedesco, daughter of Carl Tedesco and Constance Cavato in Allegheny County in 1918. Their Marriage License is recorded in the Allegheny County Marriage License Docket.

In 1920, Peter was the head of the household and was living with his family at 223 Eighth Street in Braddock. Peter reported his age to be 23, his birthplace as Italy and his year of immigration to be 1908. He listed his occupation as shoemaker. Also in the household were Peter's wife Sarah who listed her age as 18, her birthplace as Italy and her year of immigration as 1906. Also in the household was Joseph, age 10 months, a son born in Pennsylvania, Peter's mother Rose, age 60 and Peter's nephew Joseph (Rizzo) age 6 years.

  1. Joseph Oddo, born on March 15, 1919

    Joseph died in 2003. His obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. It read:

    Joseph T. Oddo, 84, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Woodhaven Care Center in Monroeville. He was born March 15, 1919, in Braddock, a son of the late Peter and Sara Teresca Oddo. Loving husband of 59 years to Rita DeDominicis Oddo. Mr. Oddo was a real estate broker in the North Huntingdon area since 1964. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, North Huntingdon, VFW Post 781 and American Legion Post 977, and held the office of president of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Gateway Lodge. Mr. Oddo also had served as president of the Irwin Board of Realtors, president of NAIF Pittsburgh branch, past president and served on the board of directors of East Suburban Multilist. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, with the 80th Infantry Division. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl, Frank, Vincent and Albert Oddo and Joe Rizzo. He is survived by his wife, Rita DeDominicis Oddo; three sons, Leonard S. Oddo and his wife, Sharon, Peter J. Oddo and his wife, Janet, and Joseph A. Oddo and his wife, Angela, all of North Huntingdon; brothers, Victor, Daniel and Richard Oddo; sisters, Rose Ciuffi, Connie Keller, Nancy Dascenzo, Diana Petruskie and Antoinette Finnerty; seven grandchildren, Andrew James, Stephanie Marie, Jason T., Nicholas L., Emily Kay, Marc A. and Anthony J. Oddo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in North Huntingdon. Interment will follow in New St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles.

  2. Rose Oddo Cuifi, born on July 4, 1920.

    Rose died in 2004. Her obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. It read:

    Rose (Oddo) Ciufi, 84, of Forest Hills died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004. Rose was an Allegheny County senior companion for 17 years. Beloved wife of the late Anthony "Tony" Ciufi. Beloved daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (Tedesco) Oddo. Loving mother of Stephen (Annette) Kochis. Grandmother of Lisa and Steve (Melissa) Kochis and Renee (Paul) Schwarm and great-grandmother of Kevin and Mary Renee, all of North Huntingdon. Sister of Victor, Daniel and Richard Oddo, Connie Keller, Nancy Dascenzo, Diana Petruskie and Antoinette Finnerty. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., Shaw and Triboro avenues, Turtle Creek. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Maurice Church. Interment will follow in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

  3. Constance Oddo who died at the age of five months of pneumonia

  4. Albert Oddo, born on November 19, 1930. Albert married Mary E. "Natalie" Ivison. Albert died on September 15, 1997. Natalie died in 2008. Her obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. It read:

    Mary E. "Natalie" Oddo, 74, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, April 4, 2008, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Braddock to the late Joseph and Betty Schmidth Ivison and also was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Oddo, and three sisters. Mrs. Oddo was a member of St. Angela Merici Parish, White Oak, and the White Oak American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and an organ donor. Surviving are son Albert Oddo, of White Oak; daughters Diana Popelas, of North Huntingdon, Jo Ann Cerniglia and Deborah Anderson, of Greensburg, and Sarah Grayson, of White Oak; grandchildren Bobbi Jo Coyne, Nicole and Roseann Oddo, Angela and Leanne Cerniglia, Allison and Brad Popelas, Shane Grayson and Ashley Anderson; great-granddaughters Courtney and Rachel Coyne, and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 2703 O'Neil Blvd., McKeesport. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Angela Merici Church with the Very Rev. Stephen M. Chervenak as celebrant. Interment will follow in Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Braddock Hills.

  9. Diana Oddo who married Michael Petruskie. Michael's sister is "Jeanie" Petruskie Patterson.

  10. Frank Oddo was born in 1923. He died at the age of 12 in 1934 and was buried in Section 13 of All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

  11. Joseph Charles Rizzo, born in 1913 in Pennsylvania. Joseph Rizzo was actually a nephew, but was raised as a son. Joseph Charles Rizzo died in 1994. His obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. It read:
    Joseph Charles Rizzo, 81, of Forest Hills, died Monday, Aug. 29, 1994, in Veterans Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Aug. 20, 1913, in McKeesport, a son of the late Charles L. and Carmelo Oddo Rizzo. He had been employed as a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel. He was the husband of Ann E. Covato Rizzo; father of the late Peter Rizzo; brother of Joseph Oddo of North Huntingdon Township, Rose Ciufi of Forest Hills, Vince Oddo of Monroeville, Connie Keller of North Versailles, Albert Oddo of White Oak, Victor Oddo of McKeesport, Nancy Dascenzo of Forest Hills, Daniel Oddo of Wilkins Township, Diana Petruskie of North Versailles, Antoinette Finnerity of Forest Hills, Richard Oddo of North Huntingdon Township, Steve Kochis and Anette Kochis of North Huntingdon Township, and the late Carl Oddo; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., corner of Shaw and Triboro Avenue, Turtle Creek. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday in Madonna Del Costello Roman Catholic Church, at a time to be announced. Interment in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
    Joseph Charles Rizzo and his wife Ann are buried in Section L-2 of All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

  12. Nancy Oddo who married Jimmy Dascenzo, son of Guiseppe "Joseph" D'Ascenzo and Nicoletta Maria Diguilio.

  14. Victor Oddo who died in 2005. His obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on 1/31/2005. It read:
    ODDO
    VICTOR Age 71, of Duquesne, formerly of McKeesport, on Jan. 29, 2005. Father of Judy Oddo Barber, Bob, Richard and Dion Oddo; brother of Connie Keller, Nancy Dascenzo, Diane Petruskie, Antoninette Finnerty, Daniel and Richard Oddo; also four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Victor was a member of the Sons of Italy in Glassport and the Marine Club in McKeesport. Friends will be received Monday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at JOBE FUNERAL HOME, INC., corner Shaw & Triboro Ave. Turtle Creek. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Fisher Church on Tuesday 9 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oddo Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 110, Turtle Creek, PA 15145.

  15. Vincent Peter Oddo, Sr., born November 23, 1926. Vincent married Nancy Jones. He in 1994. His obituary read:

    Vincent Peter Sr. on Nov. 22, 1994 of Monroeville formerly of Forest Hills; husband of Nancy Lee Jones; father of Vincent P. Oddo Jr. of Monroeville, Leslie Ney of Mt. Lebanon and Karen Shrank of FL; brother of Joseph Oddo, Ruse Clufi, Connie Keller, Albert Oddo, Victor Oddo, Nancy Dascenzo, Daniel Oddo, Diana Petruskie, Antoinette Finnerty, Richard Oddo, Steve Koshis and Anette Kochis and the late Joseph C. Rizzo and the late Carl Oddo; also four grandchildren. Friends received Weds 2-4 & 7-9 & Thurs. 7- at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Cor. Shaw & Triboro Ave., Turtle Creek where Blessing Service will be held Friday 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

    Vincent was buried in Monongahela Cemetery, North Braddock, PA, Section O.
Rose Oddo died in 1945 and was buried in Section 17 of All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

Peter Oddo died in 1959 and was buried in Secection T of All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

Sara Tedesco Oddo died in 1986. Her obituary read:

ODDO Sara Tedesco, 86, on Oct. 7, 1986 of Forest Hills, beloved wife of the late Peter Oddo, dear mother of Joseph Oddo, Joseph Rizzo, Carl, Vincent, Victor, Albert, Daniel, Richard Oddo, Rose Cuisi, Connie Keller, Nancy Dascenzo, Diana Petruiskie & Antoinette Sinnerty; sister of Anne Marino of Swissvale, Virginia Ventura, Calif, Josephine Zellers, OH, also 34 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren. Friends received at EDWARD T. PERRONE MORTUARY, 7455 Church St., Swissvale. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Maurice Church Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. Visitation with the family 2-4 & 7-9.
