Adding Pictures to Your Web Site

Some ideas are better presented with illustration.  For example, in this web site, we've used pictures of menus and dialog boxes to make some instructions easier to follow.  We might want pictures just for decoration, or to create a particular mood for our page.

Whatever the reason, at some point, you will want to display a picture of some kind on your web page.  To insert an image from the Microsoft Clip-Art Gallery,  Click Insert on the menu bar and Picture in the drop-down menu, then Clip Art. . . from the cascading menu, as illustrated.

The Clip-Art Gallery will open.  I selected the category "Academic" in the gallery, and selected a picture.  To insert it into my web page, I clicked the picture, then clicked the first icon in the fly-out menu, as illustrated below:

To insert a graphic image not found in the Microsoft Clip Art Gallery, choose From File. . . instead of Clip Art. . . on the cascading menu.

In the Picture dialog box, click the file icon, navigate to the folder containing your picture file, select your picture and click OK (or double-click the picture file).

To control the positioning of your picture, right-click your picture, then select Picture Properties. . . from the shortcut menu.  In the Picture Properties dialog box, click the tab marked Appearance.  Under Alignment select the particular positioning you want - experiment a bit with this one - some of the choices yield very surprising results.  You can also add some spacing around your picture by clicking the horizontal and vertical spacing spinners.

Now, we will return to the "Design" page, and continue with the section on Themes
