Construction of This Website.

The original construction of this site had all the surnames and given names in one index. However, the way it was constructed it gave misleading information concerning the ancestry of John Sackett of New Haven, CT who is no longer considered to be a brother of Simon Sackett of Newtowne, MA. To correct this problem, John had to be unlinked from the family of Simon Sackett's father. The program I use to generate the web pages does not have an option which allows one to generate web pages for the entire file. Therefore, the pages for the two lines were generated separately losing the advantage of having all the names in one index.

Eventually I hope to construct a single index with all the names in it. However, with more than 18,000 individuals in my file, this will take more time than is available at the present time.

Notes Embeded instead of Linked:

Originally the notes for individuals were generated as separate pages and linked to the individual in order to limit the amount of material between an indivudual's information and the listing of his children. However, this created a problem that could be irritating, viz., clicking on hundreds of links that contain small amounts of information, like where the individual lived or his/her age at death. It also created the problem of some viewers of the pages missing some information because they did not click on the "Notes" link. The new pages have the notes embeded which will necessitate scrolling through some rather lengthy notes to get to the individual's children.

Background Colors:

As you access the different lines, you will notice that each line has a different background. If I am able to construct one index containing all the names; this device should help one to know by the background which line has been accessed.

Orphan Lines:

There are some rather extensive Sacket/Sackett lines that, at this time, have no connection established to the main Sacket/Sackett lines. These are found in the "Orphan Lines". It is hoped that by posting these we may receive more information on the descendants of these "Orphan Sacket/Sacketts" and maybe someone has some information that will help break through the "brick wall" that keeps their ancestry hidden from us. The first two of these lines both originate in Addison Co., VT and the progenitors are believed to have been brothers.

English Sacketts and Later Immigrants to America:

Of course, we have had Sackett immigrants to America since the arrival of Simon Sackett in Newtowne, MA and John Sackett in New Haven, CT in the 1600s. Information for one of these "later arrivals" has been submitted to be posted. In order to give the complete his ancestry, I have included the English descendants of Thomas Sackett, the grandfather of Simon Sackett, of Newtowne, MA. The information I have for the Sacketts in England is far from complete but it establishes the connection for the later immigrant.

Disputed Ancestry:

At present this catagory inludes two lines.

714-Aaron Sackett who has at least three different fathers suggested for him.
In another line; the ancestry R. E. Sackett set forth for Joseph Sackett, father of Harvey C. Sackett and Merrill C. Sackett has some inconsistencies that raise some doubts. And when R. E. Sackett's information is compared with census data, it would appear that Joseph Sackett had an entirely different ancestry.
